No. Accommodations are NOT automatically applied just because a student has them at BHS. You must apply for them through ACC as early as possible. Additionally, accommodations are not retroactive. Before each semester, you must log in to the AIM system and request accommodation for your classes. Please see the page "Accommodations" for more information.
You should first plan out the classes that will satisfy your high school graduation requirements. Then, classes that will meet your academic or personal goals. The Bastrop High School's Dual Credit Program offers classes that help you complete your English and social studies graduation requirements upon completion.
TCCNS - the Texas Common Course Numbering System allows you to compare institutions to determine the equivalency at ACC

Transferology.com - this site may help you find equivalencies if attending an out-of-state school. It's always best to confirm transfer credits with the college you are intending to transfer to!
WHEN CAN STUDENTS JOIN?
Students can start fall/spring classes at the beginning of their sophomore or junior year. They must fulfill the admissions requirements before the fall semester begins. Spots in the program are limited and on a first come, first served basis.
Students of any grade (besides graduated seniors) can take summer classes. You can take these without taking classes during the fall/spring.
Our classes are taught by Austin Community College professors. Some professors are also teachers at BISD, while others drive in to teach the classes. Some classes may convert to being taught online if a professor cannot drive in.
WHEN/WHERE ARE THE CLASSES?
Fall/spring classes are located on BHS’s campus and take place during the regular school day. Summer classes are held during June. Summer locations switch between BHS and CCHS, depending on the summer. *Summer 2026 will be synchronous.*
HOW DOES THE CLASS SCHEDULE WORK?
Sophomores take one class in the fall semester and two classes in the spring semester. Due to seat time requirements for college classes, students must have a 1.5 hour block for classes. Sophomores are scheduled to have 3rd period + ASP as their ACC time. Their second ACC class will be distance learning. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday, with days not in class and Friday reserved for study hall.
Juniors and seniors take two classes per semester. Classes are double-blocked, so students have two ACC class periods per day (2nd/3rd or 4th/5th period). Classes are scheduled based on a college schedule, so students take one class on Monday & Wednesday, a second class on Tuesday & Thursday, and have study hall on Fridays.
ACC classes follow the ACC semester, which starts later and ends earlier than the BHS semester. Students are still required to attend class but are given study hall until the BHS semester begins or ends.
Yes. If you are taking HIST 1302 - US History through ACC, you are still expected to take and pass the US History STAAR exam as a graduation requirement.
You can practice using released TEA U.S. History STAAR tests here.
How exactly do you know which textbook is needed for your ACC dual-credit course? You can find the required textbooks for a class on your ACC schedule or syllabus.
To purchase your book, you have a couple of options, outlined here on ACC's website. Here are a few recommended options for obtaining your textbooks:
Buy textbooks from the ACC bookstore in person or order from their website.
Purchase textbooks from other websites like Amazon, Half.com, Barnes & Noble, or Abe Books. They usually offer new and used options.
Rent textbooks from sites such as Chegg and College Book Renter.
Special Note:
FAST Program-The FAST program requires that eligible students at participating institutions incur no cost (free of charge) for their dual credit coursework. Students who qualify will not pay tuition and fees for eligible dual credit courses.
Eligibility is based on all three criteria:
Student is enrolled in an eligible dual credit course at a public school district or charter school
Were qualified for free/reduced-price lunch in any of the four school years prior to enrolling in the dual credit course (based on income reported during yearly registration)
is confirmed by The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board enrolled at ACC
When registered for a First Day class, the cost of course materials is added to your ACC account. You must pay the fee before the deadline or you will be automatically dropped from the course. FDA fees are paid by going to your MyACC account, Registration&Payments, Pay for Classes/Setup Payment Plan, and paying the balance. Your FDA book will be available on your Blackboard account on the first day of class.
WHAT IS THE COLLEGE CORE?
Every student who earns a college degree at Texas public universities must complete core credits. Core credits, also known as "basics" or "gen eds", are classes that everyone must complete to earn a college degree. They include a wide variety of familiar subjects, such as English, Math, Science, and History. All public universities in Texas follow the same core curriculum in terms of subject areas & the number of classes required per subject. However, each university gets to decide which specific classes are allowed to be used for each subject area.
WHY COMPLETE THE CORE AT ACC?
If you complete the core before transferring to your next university, that next university is required to mark you as “core complete”. This means that even if they wouldn’t normally accept some of your classes for their core, they have to accept them all. If your goal is to get as much of your degree done as possible - you should try to complete the core before graduating from BHS!
HOW CAN I COMPLETE THE CORE?
Take full advantage of your free classes and complete as many classes as possible!
Fill in the rest of your credits with AP exams (AND SEND SCORES TO ACC)
You can also take CLEP exams and OnRamps (must also send to ACC!)
A great website is the Texas Common Course Numbering System which allows you to search between institutions for credit transfers.
This website allows you to search Texas college/university core curriculum requirements for strategic course planning. College Core Curriculum Guide allows you to view the "basics" required for most Texas Public Universities.
Distance Learning refers to courses offered online by ACC. This format provides students with greater flexibility in scheduling and a broader range of classes tailored to their needs. However, the content and transferability of these courses are equivalent to those of on-campus, in-person classes.
Keep in mind, Distance Learning may not suit everyone. If you’re not a self-motivated individual who can stay on top of assignments, this option might not be the best fit for you. Some courses are easier to manage online than others, so be sure to consult with Mrs. Swanson if you’re considering a Distance Learning course.
