 In this session, 9–10 RLA teachers will dig into current student writing samples to identify strengths and gaps in SCRs and ECRs. Together, we will develop intentional, step-by-step writing practice plans that move beyond general instruction to targeted routines designed to build confidence, clarity, and consistency. Teachers will leave with concrete strategies and a clear roadmap to boost student success on STAAR writing tasks.

In this session, 11th–12th grade English teachers will explore strategies to strengthen student reading and writing. We will focus on approaches that help students analyze complex texts, build critical thinking, and produce clear, effective writing. Teachers will leave with practical tools and classroom-ready ideas to deepen student engagement and prepare learners for success in both postsecondary education and life beyond high school.

This work session will focus on scoring the Extended Constructed Response essays from the mock STAAR. While campus teams should start before this day, this time will be dedicated to finalizing the scoring of ECR essays in order for campuses to have mock STAAR data. All scoring should be finished by the end of the day on 2/16.

This session will help 11th and 12th grade teachers take stock of student progress so far and reflect on growth across the first semester. We’ll analyze student work and assessment data to identify trends, strengths, and areas that need additional support. Teachers will explore high-leverage strategies to maintain rigor, address gaps, and keep students engaged as we move through the year. The goal is to ensure instruction is purposeful, responsive, and designed to accelerate learning for all students.

Together, we’ll explore creative strategies, share best practices, and build review activities that boost confidence and reinforce critical skills. Teachers will also have dedicated team planning time to turn ideas into ready-to-use review plans that energize classrooms and set students up for success.

This session focuses on preparing students for the English 1 and 2 STAAR exams. Teachers will explore strategies to reinforce reading comprehension, writing skills, and critical thinking. The session will provide opportunities to analyze sample responses, review common pitfalls, and identify high-leverage instructional practices that help students perform at their best.

This course is designed to support educators in understanding and implementing the RLA Research-Based Instructional Strategies, or RBIS. The RBIS are evidence-backed teaching practices designed to enhance reading and language arts instruction in classrooms. RBIS aim to improve student outcomes by addressing key areas like foundational skills, text complexity, knowledge coherence, and text-based responses. Â
