Master the Built-In Search Key
This key is useful in three core ways:
Quickly launch any app by typing its name. In this sense, it’s very similar to the Windows 10 Start Menu and Mac Spotlight.
Quickly launch any website URL or search engine query.
Activate a voice search by clicking the microphone button.

If the Chromebook speakers will play, but no sound is coming through the headphones, try this:
With the headphones PLUGGED IN, click on the clock on the bottom right
Then click on the arrow by the headphones
Click on the word headphone to select
This will only work if the headphones are plugged in. If they're not, you won't see the headphone icon.
