Books 📚
A good book to get and work through in preparation for A Level physics is CGP A-Level Physics: Essential Maths Skills. This will help prepare for the jump in maths skills needed for A Level.
For pleasure, you could read, The Quantum Universe: Everything that can happen does happen – Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw. Or, A short History of Nearly Everything - Bill Bryson.
Six Easy Pieces" by Richard P. Feynman: Not a textbook, but a wonderfully accessible book by a Nobel laureate explaining fundamental physics concepts like atoms, energy, and quantum behaviour. Great for fostering a deeper conceptual understanding and enthusiasm.
Why these help: They reinforce core GCSE knowledge, introduce the increased mathematical rigour of A-Level, familiarise students with new terminology and concepts, and can ignite a deeper passion for the subject.
"The Infinite Monkey Cage" (BBC Radio 4): Hosted by Professor Brian Cox and Robin Ince, this show hilariously tackles big scientific questions, often featuring physics topics and guest physicists. It makes complex ideas engaging and shows the breadth of the subject.
"Daniel and Jorge Explain the Universe": An astrophysicist and a cartoonist explain complex physics and cosmology concepts in a clear and often humorous way. Great for understanding abstract ideas.
"Physics World Weekly Podcast": From the Institute of Physics, this podcast covers the latest breakthroughs, research, and news in the world of physics. Good for seeing where A-Level topics lead.
"The Titanium Physicists Podcast": A panel of physicists discusses various physics topics, aiming to explain them in an accessible (and often very funny) way, starting from basics and building up.
Brian Cox and Robin Ince host a witty, irreverent look at the world through scientists' eye.

The BBC documentary "Atom" is a three-part series hosted by nuclear physicist Professor Jim Al-Khalili, exploring the discovery and implications of the atom as the fundamental building block of the universe.
