June Sessions
Elementary and Secondary Math Teachers
Algorithms are amazing historic achievements, but they are terrible teaching tools. If mathematics teaching is not about mimicking algorithms, then what? Join author Pam Harris to experience real math-ing, where we can accelerate students and get better results for more students.
This session is offered at ESC Region 11.

K-5 Math Teachers, Beginning Teachers 0-3 Years
All students face struggle, and they should―it is how they learn and grow. The teacher’s job is not to remove struggle, but rather to value and harness it, helping students develop good habits of productive struggle. But what’s missing for many educators is an action plan for how to achieve this, especially when it comes to math. Join us as we explore concepts from Productive Struggle by John J. SanGiovanni, Susie Katt, and Kevin J. Dykema with Region 11.

July Sessions
K-5 Math Teachers, Beginning Teachers 0-3 Years
Teaching students mental math offers a significant benefit: it teaches flexible thinking. Instead of memorizing steps, mental math encourages and fosters a true understanding of mathematics. Mental math emphasizes that math is more than a set of procedures; it's about grasping a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and flexibility in problem-solving. These strategies are essential for students of all ages. In this session, participants will explore mental math strategies such as counting on, making ten, using place value, estimation, and halving and doubling to support whole number concepts in K-5.
