Core funding for the Australian BioCommons project comes from NCRIS via Bioplatforms Australia, which is subcontracted to the University of Melbourne (UoM) as the lead agent.
As lead agent, UoM is the project host for legal, financial and other purposes.
Numerous staff working within the national BioCommons Coordination Hub, or in the Galaxy Australia Development Team are employed by UoM, and are based within the Australian BioCommons @ UoM (AustralianBiocommons-UOM SharePoint), which (as of Jan 2024) is a distinct organisational unit within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS) at UoM.
We are co-located at 21 Bedford Street with Melbourne Bioinformatics (another organisational unit within MDHS)*.
The organisational (line management) structure of UoM staff within the Australian BioCommons @ UoM is shown here:
* Note that in the 2019-23 establishment phase of Australian BioCommons, Australian BioCommons was hosted within Melbourne Bioinformatics.
