Spores are similar to seeds in that they are the reproductive unit of a mushroom! Mushrooms grow best in humid and wet environments, so there is a good chance that spores will be dispersed after rain to create the best growing environment for the mushroom. For this reason, we imitate rain (by adding water droplets to the top of the cap) to increase the probability of creating clear spore prints. Spore prints do not only make beautiful art, butt hey also are used by mycophiles & mycologists (mushroom lovers & scientists) to identify mushrooms and reproduce mushrooms at a later time.
If you used a mushroom from your fridge, use this guide to confirm that your spore print matches!
