Present Perfect Simple

Present Perfect in movies

We use the Present Perfect Simple.......

when we want to talk about actions that started in the past and continue to the present. We usually use it with 'since' or 'for'.

  • Dani has known me since 1985.
  • We haven't been here for five years.

when we talk about an action that happened in the past but we don't mention when it happened.

  • I've visited this place.

when we talk about an unfinished period of time ( this week, this month, this year).

  • She has eaten lots of chocolate this week.

when we talk about a finished action with a result in the present.

  • They've lost their keys ( so they can't go into their house ).

Time expressions used with the Present Perfect:

  • just, already, yet, since, for, lately, recently
