Sung-Joo Lim

Sung-Joo Lim, Ph.D.

Sung-Joo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, Binghamton University. She received her B.S. in Computer Science and Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University. Before joining Binghamton University in January 2021, she completed her postdoctoral training in Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (Leipzig, Germany) and at Boston University in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences as a T32 postdoctoral fellow.

Graduate Students

Rachel Nelson

Rachel obtained a bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish from San Francisco State University in 2015 and a masters in Psychology from American University in 2021. Most recently, she has served as a research assistant and lab manager in the Language, Learning, and Multisensory Brain Lab at Yale University. She is a first year PhD student interested in investigating the neurocognitive substrates of speech perception and language processing using neuroimaging modalities such as EEG and fMRI. In her spare time, she enjoys thrifting, crocheting, and visiting local coffee shops. 

David Peita

David received his bachelor’s degree in Music, Psychology, and Neuroscience from Baldwin Wallace University. He is a second year Ph.D. student in Cognitive Psychology, and is interested in studying the role of attention, memory, and emotion in auditory processing using neuroimaging tools such as EEG and fMRI. In his free time, David enjoys running, rock climbing, and spending time with his dog, Rue.

Lingyu Zi

Lingyu Zi

Lingyu completed her bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Psychology from SUNY-Oswego. She is interested in whether and how prior experience with speakers' voices can shape listeners' attentional focus to speech. In the future, she would like to employ EEG and fMRI to understand the neural processes involved in attentional allocation to speech. In her free time, she enjoys reading novels, watching dramas, animations, and movies. She also likes outdoor recreation such as biking, camping, fishing, hiking, and rafting. 

Lab Manager

Walter Dych

Walter received his bachelors degree in Linguistics from the University of Delaware in 2023. He is interested in developing methods for lab research and computational methods in the field to study lesser documented languages in the future.
