Sung-Joo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, Binghamton University. She received her B.S. in Computer Science and Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University. Before joining Binghamton University in January 2021, she completed her postdoctoral training in Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (Leipzig, Germany) and at Boston University in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences as a T32 postdoctoral fellow.
Graduate Students
Rachel obtained a bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish from San Francisco State University in 2015 and a masters in Psychology from American University in 2021. Most recently, she has served as a research assistant and lab manager in the Language, Learning, and Multisensory Brain Lab at Yale University. She is a first year PhD student interested in investigating the neurocognitive substrates of speech perception and language processing using neuroimaging modalities such as EEG and fMRI. In her spare time, she enjoys thrifting, crocheting, and visiting local coffee shops.
David received his bachelor’s degree in Music, Psychology, and Neuroscience from Baldwin Wallace University. He is a second year Ph.D. student in Cognitive Psychology, and is interested in studying the role of attention, memory, and emotion in auditory processing using neuroimaging tools such as EEG and fMRI. In his free time, David enjoys running, rock climbing, and spending time with his dog, Rue.
Walter received his bachelors degree in Linguistics from the University of Delaware in 2023. He is interested in developing methods for lab research and computational methods in the field to study lesser documented languages in the future.
Undergraduate Research Assistants
Ethan is a junior in Integrative Neuroscience, interested in pursuing a career path in neurosurgery.
Mako is a senior double majoring in Integrative Neuroscience and Mathematics. She would like to pursue computational neuroscience for her graduate career. She is currently conducting an Honors Thesis project investigating neural tracking of time-compressed speech
Jiarong is a junior majoring in Integrative Neuroscience. He would like to pursue a career in dentistry after completing the bachelor's degree.
Kimaya is a freshman majoring in Integrative Neuroscience on the Pre-Medical Track. After her bachelor's, she intends to pursue an MD-PhD in Neuroscience and become a neuropsychologist.
Skylar is a sophomore majoring in Psychology. She's interested in pursuing a career as a school psychologist.
Ingrid is a junior double majoring in Psychology and Computer Science.
Jolin is a senior majoring in Psychology.
