Information for Prospective
Graduate Students 🦋
The AACES Lab will be reviewing applications for Fall 2025 admission to the Clinical Psychology PhD program. Prospective graduate students interested in working with either Dr. Gillis Mattson or Dr. Romanczyk are strongly encouraged to read this information prior to applying to make sure we are a good match for your training goals.
The primary mode of graduate student training is the mentor-collaborator model within the context of the clinical science model. Emphasis is placed upon integration of science and practice, in the context of social responsibility and influencing large social-educational systems as well as providing services for individuals and families. A high degree of professionalism and independence are expected.
In the AACES lab, graduate student training is focused upon developing excellent research and clinical skills. We believe these skillsets are both necessary and mutually enhancing in advancing knowledge and improving the quality of life of individuals. Research in the AACES lab emphasizes both basic and applied questions, often based on the interests of graduate students.
Graduate students also have multiple opportunities for dissemination to professional and lay audiences. In addition, our lab collaborates with faculty and research teams across different disciplines, allowing for a variety of training experiences for graduate students.
We welcome you to learn more about current research projects at AACES, go to the Projects and you can read about our AACES team and their current activities.
Students working with Drs. Gillis Mattson and Romanczyk will be expected to contribute to the mission of the Institute for Child Development (ICD) via clinical training, education, outreach, and research.
Graduate students accepted to work with Dr. Gillis Mattson and Dr. Romanczyk are required to be in residence full-time during summer terms to pursue research and clinical work, and are required to perform a minimum of 2 years of the Department required Community Practicum courses at ICD. Graduate students are expected to contribute to all aspects of ABA training of undergraduate students as well as that of undergraduate research assistants.
