This is a brief overview of some of the activities the children will be involved in over the course of this first term. Children will also be supported and challenged according to their individual needs. We will also be sharing photographs of the students engaged in activities. Please share these with your children and encourage them to talk to you about their week.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

• The children will build relationships with the adults in the class.

• They will begin to learn the names of the other children in the class.

• They will explore different areas of their classroom, such as the soft play room and indoor play area.

• The children will become familiar with the Music and PE teachers in their own environment.

• Teachers will encourage the children to communicate their wants and needs using gestures and simple words.

• Teachers will talk to children about kind and safe behaviours.

Physical Development

• The children will be encouraged to move their whole bodies in response to the songs that they hear.

• They will practise holding their own cup or bottle when drinking.

• Teachers will encourage the children to develop their independence when eating. For example, attempting to use a spoon independently.

• Children will be encouraged to climb playground equipment in the indoor play.

Communication and Language

• The children will listen to simple nursery rhymes such as Humpty Dumpty, Incy Wincy Spider and Hickory Dickory Dock.

• They may begin to show understanding of the nursery rhymes through sounds and actions.  

• They will begin to explore the names of different body parts by playing naming games and joining in with songs such as, heads, shoulders, knees and toes.

This term in Crèche the children will begin to name different body parts, in particular their facial features. The teachers will talk to the children about differences such as eye, hair and skin colour. The children will begin to link the facial features to the senses of touch, sight, smell, sound and taste. They will then use their senses to explore different environments around the school. 

The children will also have the opportunity to think about their families, people who are special to them and the different countries they are from. We will continue to share weekly photographs of the children engaged in activities. Please share them with your children and encourage them to talk to you about their week.

• The children may begin to interact with familiar adults and other children in their play. For example, handing them a toy.

• Teachers will provide a variety of different activities and experiences and support children to investigate and interact with these.

• The children will continue to explore different areas of the school environment and teachers will motivate them to try new things.

• Teachers will use positive encouragement to help children understand the class boundaries and routines.

Physical Development

• The children will practise safely walking up and down a small set of steps holding the rail and the hand of an adult.

• Teachers will encourage children to take part in sensory experiences such as making marks in paint, paste or flour.

• They will be supported to explore different play equipment and apparatus in the indoor and outdoor play areas.

• Children may begin to show a desire to help with nappy changing or dressing and undressing themselves. 

Communication and Language

• The children will listen to simple songs and stories related to themselves and familiar adults. For example, Parts of the Face Song or This is a Happy Face.

• They may begin to follow along with the actions by copying an adult.

• Teachers will encourage the children to link sounds to familiar objects/toys and begin to use these sounds in their play. For example, ‘brrm’ for a toy car.

• Children may begin to use simple words to communicate their wants and needs. For example, “Water”, “Car” or “Up”.

This term in Crèche the children will begin to learn about lots of different types of animals. For example, sea creatures, jungle animals, farm animals, pets and minibeasts.  They will listen to songs and stories about these animals, play carpet games and make crafts related to the animals they are learning about. 

Towards the end of the term will be Health and Well-being Week, where we will discover how healthy eating and moving our bodies can help us to be happy and healthy. 

We will also celebrate National Day and the children will take part in lots of lovely activities, to learn all about our wonderful Kuwait! 

We will continue to share weekly photographs of the children engaged in activities. Please share them with your children and encourage them to talk to you about their week.

• The children may use familiar adults to share feelings such as excitement or pleasure, and for ‘emotional refuelling’ when feeling tired.

• Teachers will encourage children to take part in adult-led games and activities, reinforcing turn taking skills.

• The children may be able to express their preferences and ideas when taking part in activities. For example, choosing the colours they would like to use during art.

Physical Development

• The children will use their whole bodies to act out different animals. For example, a wibbly wobbly jellyfish or a slithery snake.

•  Teachers will support children to run with confidence and coordination in a safe space.

• Children will explore different foods, such as fruits and vegetables, and learn about how these can make them healthy and strong.

Communication and Language

• The children will listen to simple songs and stories related to different types of animals. For example, Rainbow Fish or Old McDonald had a Farm.

• They may be able to identify and find a familiar animal from a group.

• Teachers will encourage children to name the different animals and to copy the sounds that they make.

• Children may begin to put two words together to express their wants and needs. For example, ‘want ball’ or ‘more juice’.

 سيستمعون إلى الأغاني والقصص المتعلقة بهذه الحيوانات، ويشاركون في الألعاب على السجاد والمصنوعات اليدوية المتعلقة بالحيوانات التي يتعلمون عنها.

 في نهاية الفصل الدراسي، سيكون هناك أسبوع الصحة والرفاهية، حيث سنكتشف كيف أن الأكل الصحي وتحريك أجسامنا يمكن أن يساعدنا في أن نكون سعداء وأصحاء.

• The children may start to show their independence by making choices and sharing preferences, like picking favourite foods and pushing away what they don't like.

• The teacher will offer manageable choices between two things e.g., ‘Would you like to wear the bear costume or the butterfly costume?’ to enable children to express their own preferences.

• The teacher will provide objects and images that reflect the children’s world and home environments, creating a comforting and familiar atmosphere for them to explore and learn.

Physical Development

• During our sessions, your children will engage in rhythmic activities, such as clapping and stamping along to music, enhancing their coordination and sense of rhythm.

• They'll also learn spatial awareness as they explore fitting themselves into various spaces like tunnels, dens, and large boxes, fostering creativity and physical agility.

• Encouraging movement within these spaces promotes gross motor skills development and imaginative play, ensuring an enriching experience for your child.

Communication and Language

• Your child will delight in singing, music, and toys that make sounds, helping them explore sounds and rhythms.

• They'll mimic gestures and words, showing their eagerness to communicate and learn through imitation. During play, they may begin using single words, expressing themselves and starting to grasp language concepts.

• Additionally, they'll begin to understand simple instructions like ‘give to your teacher’ or ‘stop,’ demonstrating their growing comprehension skills.

Celebrations

Our annual celebration of Gergean will take place this term, so get your traditional Gergean outfits ready!

Gergean is a traditional celebration in Kuwait which takes place on the 15th and 16th day of Ramadan. Children traditionally go around the houses of their neighbours, singing for sweets, dressed in their traditional Kuwaiti clothes. `

الاحتفالات

سننظم احتفالنا السنوي بالقرقيعان خلال هذا الفصل الدراسي، لذا جهزوا ملابس القرقيعان التقليدية الخاصة بأطفالكم!

القرقيعان هو احتفال تقليدي في الكويت يقام في اليوم الخامس عشر والسادس عشر من شهر رمضان، يتجول فيه الأطفال حول منازل جيرانهم، وهم يغنون الأغاني التقليدية ويتبادلون الحلويات ويرتدون ملابسهم التقليدية.

• قد يبدأ الأطفال في إظهار استقلاليتهم من خلال الاختيار ومشاركة التفضيلات، مثل اختيار الأطعمة المفضلة واستبعاد غير المحببة.

• ستقدم المعلمة للأطفال فرصة الاختيار بين شيئين، على سبيل المثال، "هل ترغب في ارتداء زي الدب أم زي الفراشة؟" لمساعدة الأطفال على التعبير عن تفضيلاتهم الشخصية.

This term in Crèche, our topic is ‘Beep, Beep!’ 

The children will learn about a variety of different types of transport. Teachers will provide lots of creative, messy play and sensory activities related to this topic. The children will also be able to act out different experiences, such as being at the car wash, through different role-play opportunities.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

• The children will play games and participate in activities that encourage them to share with one another and practise waiting for their turn.

• The children may seek out other children who have similar likes and interests as them when playing with activities.

• Teachers will encourage children to give comfort to or help their peers when they notice they are feeling sad and upset.

Physical Development

• The children will practise using bikes and scooters with some control and coordination when moving forwards and stopping.

• They will continue to develop their fine motor skills through playdough and lacing activities.

• The children may be developing their independence in helping with self-care. For example, taking off their own shoes or socks or attempting to put on their own items of clothing.

• They may begin to show some control in opening and closing simple bottles and Tupperware.

Communication and Language

• The children will enjoy listening to songs and stories such as, Little Blue Truck and We All Go Travelling By to learn about different types of transport.

• They will be introduced to vocabulary such as, ‘wheels’, ‘horn’ and ‘wipers’ and may use these new words when singing songs or talking to adults or their peers.

• They may show interest in playing with sounds related to transport. For example, ‘choo-choo’ like a train or ‘nee-naw’ like an ambulance.

• The children will play transport-related games by listening to and attempting to follow simple instructions.
