February in BUCSSP:

Season of Quad Celebration

For the four departments in the Bicol University College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, the month of February is more than just a celebration of love where chocolates, flowers, and other gifts are pouring, but rather the season where they look back and reminisce on how fruitful their journey has been as an academic program and avenue for nurturing students to be socially relevant and catalysts of change.

Pista ng Sosyo since 1972

With blasting colors and loud joys, the department of Sociology lived up to the festivities as they celebrated their 51st founding anniversary from February 14 to 15, 2023, with the theme “Transcending Boundaries to Reconnect and Rebuild Socio’s Zest and Quest for Holistic Development.” The opening program commenced with a thanksgiving mass, the annual tradition of the department, to show gratitude to the Supreme Being for His unending love and enormous providence.

Several alumni also graced the event and shared meaningful and intimate conversations with the students in Of Reminiscence and Inspiration: A Heart-to-Heart Conversation. Aside from the simple meet-and-greet session, a forum took place, which discussed how its essence can foster inclusivity.

To liven up the spirit of festivity in the department, The Associates, official student organization of the department, organized the annual Padaraplusan, wherein students rekindled the essence of camaraderie per team and unveiled their creativity, wits, and determination as they competed for the overall championship during the second and last day of the Sociology celebration.

51st Political Science Days

As political scientists continue their quest towards excellence, they challenged themselves to discover and explore the wonders of different multiverses from February 14 to 16, 2023, during their 51st founding anniversary at BUCSSP grounds.

They conducted different events that tested their skills and capabilities to conquer the heights before them, such as sports, literary, visual, music, dance, and academic contests.

Persistent for their annual tradition of recognizing the muse and escort of Tribu Polsay, the Political Science Club spearheaded Eleftheria: Diyos at Diyosa ng Tribu as part of the most-awaited celebration in the department.

27th Peace Days

Centering on promoting a philosophy and culture of peace amongst students, the Peace Studies department continues to go beyond 27 years of upholding values that respond to a variety of peace concerns.

Last February 27 and 28, the Junior Peace Advocates catered to the multiple intelligences of the students as they facilitated various activities such as sports, academic, literary, singing, dancing, and spoken poetry competitions.

A comprehensive and relevant seminar was also conducted at Arcilla Hall to discuss the landscape of peace education in the country and its future.

17th Philosophy Days

To be reminded to continuously pursue their journey and fidelity to the truth, the Philosophy department celebrated the 17 years spent nurturing the minds of the students to yearn for and value wisdom from February 20 to 24, 2023.

Held at BUCSSP grounds, the Young Philosophers Society prepared mind-stimulating activities that allowed the students to enjoy and acquire knowledge as they voyage to a vast sea of philosophizing, such as film discussions, mind and body races, debates, and literary competitions.

Aside from that, the Philosophy Night, which is a cause and advocacy-centered event, was one of the highlights of the week-long celebration as it became the avenue for the students and alumni not just to dance ‘til dawn but to form bonds and deep ties in pursuit of extensive philosophical discourses aiming to be one with truth. by Janna Alyssa Jacob, BUCPRO Affiliate (CSSP/PC)
