BU-UP to explore academic cooperation

To foster academic partnership with the University of the Philippines (UP), Bicol University (BU) has pursued two Memorandum of Understanding with UP Manila and UP Los Baños on November 8 and 11, 2022.

The MOU will seek a student and faculty exchange program, joint research programs, co-supervision of graduate and undergraduate students, the conduct of lectures, conferences, and symposia, exchange of information or research publications, on-the-job training or internship specifically for the BU College of Science, and other academic exchanges that may be agreed upon.

Present at the MOU signing with UP Manila held at The Pepperland Hotel were Dr. Carmencita D. Padilla, Chancellor of the UP Manila, Dr. Amelia A. Dorosan, VP for Academic Affairs, Prof. Jocelyn E. Serrano, Dean of the BU College of Science, Dr. Myra O. Villareal, Balik Scientist of the University of Tsukuba, and Dr. Ofelia Samar-Sy, Dean of the College of Medicine. Also present were Dr. Lilibeth Ase-Cajuday, Program Adviser of MS Biology and Program Leader of the DOST-PCHRD Tuklas Lunas Development Center, and Prof. Charmaine A. Malonzo, BUCS Research Coordinator.

Likewise, the MOU signing held with UPLB at the BUGASS Conference Room was attended by Dr. Maribel L. Dionisio-Sese, UPLB Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Vachel Gay V. Paller, UPLB Director of the Institute of Biological Sciences, and Prof. Joseph Carmelo K. San Pascual, UPLB Chair of the IBS Curriculum and Instruction Committee, BU VPAA Dorosan, CS Dean Prof. Serrano, and Balik Scientist Dr. Villareal.

Both partner institutes look forward to a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with BU in order to formalize the collaboration and seek more areas in the academic field. | by Arnold C. Noda, CPRO
