BU distributes 70 smart TVs, 40 docu cams

Bicol University (BU) continues to pave the way for a technology-driven campus by distributing 70 smart TVs and 40 document cameras to various identified offices as part of the Smart Campus Development Project, April 12, 2023.

In a speech given during the distribution, BU President Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III expressed his happiness in finally realizing this plan for the university’s Smart Campus Development program.

"Alam ko ito ay kakaunti lamang kumpara sa bilang ng mga kailangan pang bigyan. However, please be assured that we will strive to ensure that a technology-driven Bicol University is within our vision of establishing sustainable societies as part of our thrust for a University for Humanity," he said.

The Smart Campus project is funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), as part of the Infrastructure and Smart Campus Development, Operationalization of Face-to-Face Classes and Upgrading/Procurement of Equipment under RA 11639 (GAA2022) appropriations,  led by the Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO) in collaboration with the Planning and Development Office. Incepted during the former President Mascarinas’ term, this project serves as proof that planning and doing things in collaborative service can benefit not only the BU personnel but also the community they serve beyond the university's borders.

Dr. Nebres concluded by exhorting the BU community to continue working together to achieve the dreams for Bicol University as one family. "Ang lahat ng magandang bagay ay nagsisimula sa isang pangarap. Let us remember to dream as one family, one university. Kayo, tayo, ang Bicol University. BU is US, BU is You!!

The distribution of smart TVs is a step toward the university’s goal to become a Smart Campus. With more initiatives and projects in the pipeline, the BU administration hopes to continue bridging the digital divide and providing quality education and public information to its students and the community.

Sixty units of the 65 inches Skyworth smart TV and 10 units of the 70 inches Samsung smart TV were distributed to select offices and all academic units of the university.

The Communication and Public Relations Office, headed by Dr. Renelyn E. Bautista, was tasked to take charge of managing the contents of the smart TVs throughout the university once installed. They will leverage this technology to provide all offices and campuses with a synchronized flow of information.

Meanwhile, a total of 40 documentary cameras were given to the academic colleges, campuses, and institutes of the university, which can be used for meetings and academic sessions by projecting images, documents, or objects. (by Arnold C. Noda, MPS I-CPRO)
