Aboarding and Onboarding: 71 newly hired BU employees undergo 2-days F2F orientation

The Bicol University Human Resource Management Office (BUHRMDO) organized a two-day face-to-face orientation for the 71 newly hired teaching and non-teaching personnel with the theme, Aboarding and Onboarding: Appraising Newly Hired Bicol University Personnel, at the Bicol Food Delights Function Hall, Legazpi City from April 25 to 26, 2023.

The first day of the program started with Prof. Alwin Joseph C. Maceres, who introduced the university's organizational structure and hierarchy, as well as its vision, mission, goals, and objectives, followed by Atty. Norly P. Reyes, Chief Administrative Officer of the Administrative Division, who presented the university's governance structure and accountability.

BU President Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III also graced the occasion, and he formally welcomed the new hires to the BU family and shared an inspiring message. He also recalled his journey at BU and his path toward becoming its 9th President.

“Today, my dear new and official members of the Bicol University family, you are being handed one of the best opportunities in your personal and professional lives. Isipin n’yo na lang – marami ang nagnais na maging bahagi ng pamilya ng Bicol University. But they’re not here. You are. Many had been dreaming of the day when they can become permanent members of Bicol University. “

In the afternoon, Atty. Karina Katerin J. Bertes from the Anti-Red Tape Unit of Legal Services Divisions presented the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery. Dr. Jennifer T. Barrameda, the Supervising Administrative Officer and Head of BUHRMDO, then discussed the Performance Management Scheme the university implements.

The following day, the newly hires were introduced to the various services and benefits provided by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF)/PAG-IBIG, and PhilHealth. Representatives from these agencies presented their services and benefits in detail and answered questions from the attendees, to provide clarification. 

In the open forum, a possible partnership between the BU College of Medicine and PhilHealth was discussed, which will allow BUCM to be one of Albay’s E-Konsulta Providers. With this collaboration, a free health consultation service may be offered by BUCM, especially to the BU community.

Afterwards, former BU President and Professor Emeritus, Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas expressed his delight in seeing the participants, most of whom were hired during his administration. He also shared an inspirational message and encouraged the employees to remain committed to the values and principles of the university and take pride in being part of an institution that has a significant impact on society.

In the afternoon, Atty. Daryl B. Redoblado, University Legal Officer, discussed RA 6713 or an “act establishing a code of conduct and ethical standards for public officials and employees, to uphold the time-honored principle of public office being a public trust, granting incentives and rewards for exemplary service, enumerating prohibited acts and transactions and providing penalties for violations thereof.”

Meanwhile, the privileges and benefits of BU employees were discussed by Myra A. Caparas, Administrative Officer III of the Administrative Division. She also awarded a Starbucks voucher to those who can answer and explain her questions. 

As the orientation drew to a closure, a segment dubbed BU Talks was conducted for the new faculty members and non-teaching personnel. A short introduction was delivered by Engr. Fernan D.
