Chickens! The Pets that lay Breakfast

By Daniel Kangavari (Staff writer)

If you are thinking about getting a new pet and having backyard space then chickens are for you. Chickens are working pets and will reward you by laying eggs. You might be wondering about where to start but you will find out now.

First, check with your city regulations to see if poultry is legal in your city. It might be illegal or your city might have limitations on the number of chickens you own.

Next, if your city allows poultry then you need to find your local farmers market where you will buy the chickens, their feed, and any other supplies.

After that, you will need to acquire a chicken coop you can build, buy it pre-built, or hire a person that specializes in coop building to build a custom coop. You will need to get a coop before you get the chickens.

Lastly, after you have the coop you need to place it on soil, not concrete. Then you will need to make the feeder and waterers out of five-gallon buckets from a hardware store. You will need to connect poultry cups to the bottom of the waterer and a PVC pipe elbow to the feeder and then you are ready to go get the chickens. You can get one chicken per 2-3 square feet per chicken inside the coop, and 8-10 square feet for outdoor enclosures. Overall chickens are a great pet.

Stressed for Success

By Simon Johnson (Staff writer)

Recently 50% of students reported feeling stressed on a poll. Students said that school and homework make them stressed. Three-quarters (75%) of American high schoolers and half of the middle schoolers described themselves as "often or always feeling stressed" by schoolwork.

According to relevant studies, as many as 53% neglect their friends because of stress. Also, 45% feel they face "more than average" pressure. Thus, we could say that around 50% of college students are stressed. Additionally, College student statistics show that students have to deal with a lot of stress. According to relevant studies, as many as 53% neglect their friends because of the pressure of tests and homework. Also, 45% feel they face "more than average" stress. Thus, we could say that around 50% of college students are stressed.

Overall, homework, tests, and schoolwork stress students out. Teachers need to do something like lowering the amount of homework or diminishing the test stress so that kids can get through school as easily as possible.

How to Follow School Rules

By Mia Sagie (Staff writer)

What do you think of school rules, in classes, outside, dress code, or in general? The school dress code is a tough situation since some think they are useful rules, others not so much. I personally think the dress code is a really useful rule. Kids/teens should be able to wear whatever they would like to, as long as they know how to wear it. For example, crop tops can be worn at school yet the teachers and principals disagree. I understand that because sometimes people can wear really- cropped tank tops or shirts that can be really unneeded but it is not harming anyone and it is not doing anything to anyone. If someone does not want someone to wear something cropped then they shouldn’t look like that's it. In addition, Phone situation.

Another issue is cell phones. Phones get taken away every minute in every school. Yes, it is really easy to follow the rule of not using the phone during school hours but are the staff taking it too seriously? I think that students should be able to keep their cell phones out during school hours as long as it is not distracting anyone and if a certain teacher does not want your phone out during class that’s fine but just in general having your phone out and it getting it taken away that easily is unfair especially because it is not your property. During lunch, students should have the opportunity to use their phones if they are doing something inappropriate which I highly doubt would happen. They should be out whenever we have our free time. Classroom rules are not usually a problem. Yet, students should be able to follow them and they don’t. I find it pretty funny that some students mess around but sometimes it gets really annoying. Students should be able to have some fun in class but I think they should do it with limits.

Lastly, no tolerance for sexual harassment is another important rule. This is one of the worst things that happen at school. A school rule in the student handbook states that “Beverly Hills Schools prohibit sexual harassment of any student or staff member by any district employee, student or other people. Any person who is found guilty of sexual harassment shall be subject to disciplinary action.” Anyways no one should be harassed and the fact that people even get harassed is just really sad.

Music Is Everything

By Eliana Shirazi (Staff writer)

“Music triggers powerful positive emotions via autobiographical memories. A new neuroscience-based study has identified that if specific music evokes personal memories, these songs have the power to elicit stronger positive emotions than other stimuli, such as looking at a nostalgic picture”(Psychology Today) Music is also scientifically proven to help all ages focus on what there doing making their work.

Beyond providing background noise, music has been shown to improve both productivity and cognitive performance, especially in children. Listening to music can help people manage anxiety, become motivated, and stay productive.

Music is all around us intersecting our lives, regulating our moods, and bringing good vibes to those who are listening. It raises your mood, brings excitement, or calms you down. It allows us to feel all the emotions that we experience in our lives. I personally listen to music every single day and I am doing amazing. I have never felt better about how I do my work and I have all A’s.

I have a friend with extreme anxiety and she can rarely calm down. I introduced her to my music and I have never seen her happier with her lower levels of anxiety. It's the same for anger issues. I have anger issues and something that helps me calm down is my music. If you ever see me I will most likely have my headphones on.

Not only that but there are so many genres of music so you can find the ones that fit your personality. Like I like rap, sad, dark, and creepy music.

Now, most people disagree and say music is distracting and stops their kids from focusing and makes them work less because of the words in the background Now, this is very true but there is music that is upbeat and wordless that helps you focus. Another good type is classic music. Overall music is a good way to drown out your background noises and anything else. Or an alternative way to help you focus.

Social Media is Maturing Us?

by Ella Ettlinger (Staff writer)

Covid has been around for a while now, and we adapt to it. At the beginning of COVID, I was an innocent 9-year-old playing Roblox and when we returned to school, I was an 11-year-old expected to behave in a mature way. How did I mature so quickly in only two years?

One of the reasons why I have grown up so much during Covid is my use of social media. Now that I have access to social media, I am being influenced by people who are older than me. This has caused me to mature because I feel I need to act like 17-year-olds that I see on Tik Tok.

What are ways we can fix this? Well, first of all, I think that social media should be able to access our camera when we sign up to see if the person signing up is an adult or an immature 8-year-old.

In conclusion, I think we should pay more attention to how social media and cell phones are affecting the way we grow up. We should keep an eye out when we are doing something that we know is not for our age.

The Story of Mattel vs. MGA

By Eden Romero (Staff writer)

Did you know that Barbie is the most popular fashion doll in the United States? The doll barely had any rivalry for 60 years. Other than a brief conflict with Gem dolls in the 80s, Barbie didn’t have much competition. It was not until 2001 when MGA came out with Bratz that Barbie had a rivalry.

Carter Bryant created the concept of Bratz in the year 2000, while he was working at Mattel, the company that made Barbie. Before Bryant had even quit Mattel he sold the idea of Bratz to MGA, a toy company, then quit working at Mattel two weeks later and was employed at MGA.

In 2004 Mattel filed their first lawsuit against MGA, claiming that their former employee Carter Bryant created the concept of Bratz while working at Mattel. After that Mattel and MGA had numerous legal issues with each other.

Today Mattel and MGA still have a rivalry. Mattel recently announced that Monster High, a doll line, animated series, and collection of animated movies about the children of famous monsters would get a live-action musical movie and series that will air on Nickelodeon in the United States in 2022, meaning that new Monster High dolls will most likely be released. Shortly after this was announced MGA stated that Bratz would make a comeback, most likely to compete with Mattel. Both doll lines disappeared from shelves, so fans of the dolls have been waiting for more Monster High and Bratz content. The doll brands have tried to appeal to an adult audience, and it has worked successfully. Adult collector Monster High dolls have been released online to order this year and last year, and they both sold out in less than 10 minutes. Official Bratz content has been released on social media that’s been more adult, such as a Bratz parody of Jennifer’s Body for Halloween that fans loved.

Though Mattel and MGA haven’t had any recent competition, it seems like there’s going to be a lot of competition in the doll industry in 2022.

Old New Fashion?

By Ella Ettlinger (Staff writer)

There are many fashion trends in the new generation such as Y2k, Grunge, fairy core, goth, and more. Some of these fashion trends are just old trends from 1980-2000 but how come they look so different?

The punk style was a very trendy style from about during the '80s and '90s which greatly influenced the goth and grunge style. Additionally, Y2K was a style popular in the 2000 but is still going around today, in Y2K the most popular pieces of clothing are any type of graphic t-shirt that is tight corsets low rise and flared jeans zip-up jackets sequined shirts but I hope the trends we have now never die out.

What are the fears of 6th graders?

By Cooper By Cooper Esparza (Staff writer)

I'm pretty sure every student had or has fear of coming to 6th grade. It's really common considering that it is pretty common for students to have a fear of coming to a new school.

One of the most common fears is having bad grades, which is perfectly normal for almost every student. Everybody strives to have good grades even me, It is really hard to get straight As with the whole not being at school for a year, most students didn't learn anything

from an online school.

Some students usually get lost looking for their classes without a schedule, especially people with big schools, just like BVMS, the school we have is huge, even the D building. I wanna say as an estimate, there are about 20+ classrooms in the building alone.

I'm pretty sure every student has a hidden fear of coming to a new school or grade, as it is common for that to happen, some students just take it to chill and don't worry about

anything at all.

I asked my classmate Mia S and she said "I was scared someone would push me down the stairs. Then I asked my classmate Simon J who said "My fear is getting lost since I don't really know this school.” Finally, I asked another classmate who said "I heard a few years ago that kids were doing and selling drugs and I was scared people would do it to me."

My point is that it's normal to have a fear of coming to 6th grade cause you're not gonna be alone with your fear because maybe a few other people may have it.

Is it Good for you to hang out with others too often?

By Mia Sagie (Staff writer)

Do you think that your kids are hanging out too often, how can it influence them? Let's check out what types of things it can cause. One, stress, can cause stress because, for example, you might think your friends think you do not hang out with them enough. It might cause stress if you are not hanging out with them enough and you might think they do not want to be your friend anymore.

There are a bunch of thoughts that can be put into your head when it comes to hanging out with friends.

In addition, You might hang out with a bad influence. Normally kids/teenagers might be "mad" at their parents because they are being annoyed because of whom or whom they are not allowed to hang out with.

A thing you might hear from your parent(s) is " You can not hang out with Y/N because they are a bad influence." Your friend might tell you " My parents don't let me hang out with you anymore because apparently, you are a bad influence."

If I heard that from my friend I would probably be sad or pissed because they might have been a good friend or that it is not fun to hear that you are a, "bad influence." I interviewed some people and asked for their thoughts. I asked a girl named Chloe what she thought of kids hanging out, she said " I like hanging out with my friends but sometimes I feel left out when I can not come or I am not invited because I feel like I am missing out."

Lastly, I asked Ella and she said " Sometimes my friends hang out without me and it makes me feel like they do not like me and they do not want to hang out around me. I think that is a fair answer, but do not worry Ella, you can hang out with me. Let's talk about my thoughts for Students hanging out.

I am someone who loves hanging out with my friends. Hanging out with my friends can be one of the most fun things I do, yet sometimes it gets in my head and I overthink it way too much, yet other times I know how to limit it. I think not being invited to something that all your friends are doing can get confusing, sad or annoying. I think kids should be able to hang out with whoever they want but sometimes it can get out of hand. Overall I think you can hang out with whoever you want with limits but it should be forced and it should be for fun.

To conclude my thoughts of students hanging out, let's add a little quote or two I found online. "Enjoy being with yourself, hanging out with yourself, doing things by yourself." "I love hanging out with people who make me forget to look at my phone." In conclusion, I think you can hang out with whoever you want with limits, but it should be fun and responsible.
