Crystal Healing - Real or Just Imagination?
The science behind shiny rocks
By Daria Serheyeva
Imagine a girl going to a shop and buying a small rose quartz to attract her crush with the tumbled stone. She holds the pink crystal and smiles, hoping its energy will help her. Now imagine an ancient Sumerian of Mesopotamia. He's also using crystals, but now for healing. Their goals and times are completely different, yet the method of achieving them is the same. Those shiny stones, which are said to have unique properties, have been used by people since ancient times. Today, many buys rose quartz to attract love, clear quartz for healing, or aventurine for prosperity. Do crystals help, or is it just our imagination?
Crystals and metaphysics
What's important to know is that the current use of crystals did not appear anywhere. Different cultures mention their metaphysical properties. Many concepts of the practice were taken from those cultures, for example, the concept of life energy from China. Chakras are also mentioned a lot concerning crystals. These days, some people use the term "vibrational energy" to talk about crystals, and the stones are said to hold potent vibrations. Crystals affect the body's energies and positively impact the person. Crystal healing went through many generations, taking knowledge from ancient concepts and traditions.
Crystal Healing in Science
Unfortunately, no peer-reviewed studies prove that crystal healing is scientific. But there is information that may explain why crystals work. When using crystals, most people believe in their properties. As a result, the placebo effect may take place. There are still results, but they are caused by believing in crystals instead of the stones themselves. Even if our minds created it, the effects are still there. Because of the lack of studies, there is no way to determine whether crystal healing is a placebo, so people decide for themselves.
The Truth
Is crystal healing natural? Well, it depends on how you see it. Some people believe in it wholeheartedly, but others are skeptical about it. People who believe in crystal healing tend to experience at least some positive effects, but the final choice, whether it works or not, is for everyone to make on their own.
Vocabulary
crystal healing: pseudoscientific alternative-medicine practice that uses semiprecious stones and crystals such as quartz, agate, amethyst or opal.

metaphysics: the branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, substance, cause, identity, time, and space
vibrational energy: electromagnetic energy waves created by constantly vibrating molecules in our bodies
placebo: a beneficial effect produced by a placebo drug or treatment, which cannot be attributed to the properties of the placebo itself, and must therefore be due to the patient's belief in that treatment.

French Culture
By Simone Simantob
France is one of the most well-known countries in the world. It is known for its rich architecture, art, food, fashion, and language.
Art
France is known for having and displaying some of the most well know pieces of art of all time, including art created by Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and many more. While these artists may not have come from France, they worked hard to come work in France while they were painting.
Food
French food is one of the most loved cuisines in the world. French cuisine dates back to medieval times, from their onion soup to their famous baguettes and jam. They would eat game fruits and grain and were the first to have a multi-course meal. People in the old times had few ways to preserve foods, so they used the staple supplies they had to make culinary masterpieces. During the middle ages, families passed the food recipes down from generation to generation spreading the culture to everyone. In the 1600s, cooks' books finally came to the place. As France colonized the other countries Asia Africa and the Americas caught on and started to make their food too. French food has played a significant role in their culture and the world.
Fashion
French fashion revolutionized the fashion world with its high prices and over-the-top designs. They led a new era in the world of fashion. It started with their puffy dresses as they got slimmer and slimmer. Some of our favorite designers come from France, like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Saint Laurent, and so much more. In the early 20th century, France's most famous designer brand was Channel, known for its tight sophisticated corsets and long, puffy skirts. Towards the 1920s, they started to make more loose designs incorporating coats and wool. During World War II, all the designer houses shut down their businesses because of corruption. Those twelve years were terrible for the designers, as some filed for bankruptcy. However, in the end, they lived; the fashion world as a challenging game to play.
Architecture
Architecture plays a significant role in what France is to us. Many French designs were influenced by the Roman Empire and its arches and ridges. As Rome was conquering Europe and different parts of the world, they set a trend of gold lining and details that became the way to make and design buildings and houses. Soon the world caught on France took it to the next level by adding its component. To this day, we still see beautiful, perceived, and one-of-a-kind architecture. In the end, France is a lovely country with many things to offer to the world and has a hung and well-developed culture.

Phuket - The best Holiday Destination
By Halo Jenkins
Imagine watching the sunset on the beach while your kids have fun ziplining across the forest. If you want to make this fantasy the future, book a holiday to Phuket (poo-ket), Thailand. Phuket is the best holiday destination in the world because it is great for families and couples and even great if you're flying solo.
Culture
Phuket is known for its culture and food. If you go to Phuket, I am 100% sure you will see a Buddha there. Buddhism is a significant religion in Phuket, and the Buddha is everywhere. In Phuket, there are shrines and temples for people to worship. One central temple in Phuket is The Big Buddha which is a massive temple in the shape of a Buddha. I recommend going, especially if you still need to get your steps in, because it's a bit of a hike to the top, but it is worth it. Another major part of Phuket's culture includes performance arts in the form of plays. One significant performance is the magical and exciting Simon Cabaret performance. There are other types of cultural entertainment to observe in Phuket: rituals, festivals, prayer ceremonies, and dances. One of the most traditional dances is Khon Lakon, a traditional Thai dance of men wearing masks accompanied by narrators. Khon is based on the tales of the epic Ramakien. The monkeys play the most crucial role in this dance.
Activities
Phuket is an excellent place for families for the simple reason that there is so much to do. If you travel into the forest, try ziplining through it, try an elephant ride, or try riding an ATV. Ziplining is a significant activity in Phuket. One of the most famous ziplining destinations to visit in Phuket is Hanuman World, a fantastic amusement park in Phuket. It holds the longest zip line in Thailand. If you are interested in elephant rides, Phuket is the right place to be. You can go for a short elephant ride or on a whole trip; if you don't mind getting dirty, you should try elephant trekking which is where you go all around the forest while riding elephants. ATV rides are also a principal activity to do in Phuket. Atv-ing is not for young kids, though, so if you plan on Atvi-ng through the mountains in Phuket, I highly recommend leaving the little ones at the hotel.
Destinations
If you are stressing out about all these activities and performances, do not worry because the best part about Phuket is the island and the beaches. Phuket is known for its beautiful clear blue waters and its relaxing beaches. There are more than fifteen islands you can visit in Phuket, the best rated being Phi Phi island; although Phi Phi island is the most expensive in Thailand, another option is the Surin Islands. This is a calm island. You can relax on a hammock on the beach under a tree or dive into the most beautiful ocean. If you like adventures and activities, try snorkeling or try my favorite, jet skiing or canoeing. If you go snorkeling in Phuket, you will see the most beautiful fish and even sharks. Jet skiing is super, super fun. You can jetski through the ocean, which is impressive; however, if you could be a better driver, try canoeing. You get to see the entire ocean without feeling like you're on a motorcycle. Another place to visit in Phuket is its beautiful night markets. Although their Night Markets are intense, stressful, and overwhelming, it's a great place to go if you want to see how the locals live.
Snowboarding and Its Great Story
By Aaron Bohbot
Many people will say that "snowboarding is one of the hardest sports in the world" or "if you snowboard, you are making it harder on yourself," but as many say, skiing is easy to learn yet hard to master, but snowboarding is hard to know, easy to master. Once you get the flow of snowboarding, it will feel like heaven.
Equipment
Most people know that snowboarding gear is just like any other winter gear. You buy it and wear it. Well, that is only partially correct; snowboarding gear, like any gear, depends on where you are snowboarding. The bottom line is to get the proper equipment for where you decide to snowboard.
Who is the creator of snowboarding
In 1963, a man named Tom Sims had an issue with winter. He loved skateboarding, but he couldn't because of the icy roads, so he made a board called ski board in 1965, And after that, it boomed in popularity, and it was then named Snurfing (snow surfing). It became the most popular thing to do when going somewhere cold/snowing, and then sadly, Tom Sims died on September 12, 2012, due to cardiac arrest.
Famous Snowboarder
The most known snowboarder Shaun White is known for winning a staggering eighteen gold medals and three Olympic gold medals. He started snowboarding when he was at the age of six. He is now thirty-six, born September 3, 1986. He retired after the 2022 Bejing Winter Olympics, where he placed fourth.

Cyber Bullying Is Alive and Well
Who Should Be Held Accountable
By Erin Han
Introduction
Cyberbullying happens between friends as well as strangers. Sometimes when I scroll through social media comments on TikTok, I read how several people are making fun of each other in the comments section or even judging the person who has posted the TikTok just trying to have fun. Many teenagers have been creating accounts anonymously and making fun of people from their school or even in general.
Cyberbullying includes:
Constantly instant messaging rude comments to a classmate
Uploading embarrassing pictures of friends at school without their permission
Spreading rumors about kids at school using email
Threatening violence
Telling someone to kill themselves
Effects of Cyberbullying
People who experience cyberbullying can experience mental health issues such as increased stress, anxiety, depression, acting out violently, and low self-esteem. Cyberbullying can also have long-lasting emotional effects, even if the bullying has stopped.
Ways People Can Get Away with Cyberbullying
Sometimes people make second, third, fourth, or as many accounts as they want to cyberbully someone.
Social Media Improvements Are Needed
Social media companies do more prevention on the apps, but it is hard to control that sometimes. On many social media sites, you can turn off your comments, turn your dm's off and only for friends, and many other ways to keep your privacy safer. Sometimes it could be more complicated than just blocking and reporting. Social media could block every account coming from that device or person so they could be more peaceful and trust social media more. Overall, cyberbullying affects many people and haunts them. Cyberbullying should stop.

The Great WTYT 960 Billboard Sitting Contest Live!
Living on a Billboard
By Grace Alexander
Have you ever heard of anyone crazy enough to live on a billboard for a contest? Well, there were twelve people who were actually crazy enough to do that. They faced some extreme difficulties.
Daily Life and Contest Rewards
On a billboard on Sunset and La Cienega in 1984, twelve enduring people were staked out, waiting until the other eleven go down. The winner of this WTYT 960 radio show-produced contest will get a new car, a screen test for an acting gig, and some cash. There is a catwalk and tents that they have to sleep in. The catwalk is only about the average size of a front porch. They had to put up with winter rains and cold and each other. They could only come down to go to the bathroom only four times a day; they could take their bathroom break for a max of ten minutes. They could also take a shower for twenty minutes each day. Also, local restaurants provided them with food. They were allowed to have a radio and TV as entertainment.
The Billboard Sitters
This contest was so interesting that Zeke Zelker made a show about it. He named it the Billboard Sitters. It is a one-season show of nine episodes, each about 15 minutes long. This show has been majorly embellished and is not completely accurate. For instance, there is one woman out of twelve people who competed in the real-life contest, and in the show, there are two women and only a total of 4 people. In the show, Michael Fegley plays Josh Richards an enthusiastic dad. Shelby Reynolds is an artist played by Cristina Lucas Tissot. Krystin Koczur as the widowed stroke survivor Ellen Snyder. And Clark Thompson, a wanna-be rock star played by David Lind.
As you can see, it was so incredible that they made a TV show loosely based on it. This was such a unique contest, and it must’ve been fun to watch! Would you be up to the challenge?
Dance Moms
By Isabella Miller
Dance Moms is a reality series on Lifetime and produced by Collins Avenue Production. The show is mainly about training dancers and creating careers for children in dance and show business under the control of Abby Lee Miller at her Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC). A big part of the show is the relationships between Miller, the moms, and the dancers.
The Setting of the Show
The dancers and their mothers are constantly arguing. The show was initially set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and later continued to Los Angeles, California, with new team members. The show accompanies the girls on the ALDC Junior Elite Competition Team as they learn their dance routines; usually, their dances are choreographed by Gianna, the choreographer. And then, the competition team performs them at competitions around the world.
Nia Frazier
Nia Sioux Frazier was born June 20, 2001, to Holly and Evan Frazier. She was the middle child. She started dancing at age three at Reign Dance Productions and became an official member of the ALDC. She stayed at the ALDC the longest out of all the original dancers, even though she got treated the worst by the dance teacher Abby Lee Miller. She was the only original dancer who stayed throughout season 7. Abby Lee Miller would rank how the dancers did throughout the week, and Nia would often be at the bottom, making her mom angry.
Mackenzie Ziegler
Mackenzie Ziegler was born on June 4, 2004; she was on dance moms for six seasons with her sister Maddie Ziegler. She was the youngest dancer on the show. Besides dancing, she is a singer and wrote a song in 2018. She has also sung in a duet with Johnny Orlando, and the song title was "Day and Night." She has acted on Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, and Dawn and modeled for Polo Ralph Lauren. Abby did a Christmas special and gave presents to the dancers; she gave Mackenzie Ziegler a puppy named Maliboo, which had recently just died. Maliboo was a fluffy white puppy with brown splotches on the ear which would hang down.
Maddie Ziegler
Madison Nicole Ziegler was born September 30, 2002; she has a sister who was also in dance moms, Mackenzie Ziegler. Mackenzie would feel left out most of the time because she was often compared to Maddie. Maddie was an actress and dancer. Maddie Ziegler was seen on Lifetime's reality tv series Dance Moms. At eight years old, she began dancing on the show in 2011 and left the studio to continue acting on May 24, 2016. She starred in Sia's music video for Chandelier. Ziegler has appeared in films, magazine covers, advertisements, concerts, and shows. She got the most opportunities out of all the dancers. She was Abby Lee's favorite, and many of the moms and dancers were jealous of the options she got. Her parents are divorced, and her dad was never involved. A big part of her parent's divorce was because of dance. Maddie and Mackenzie's dad went to high school with Abby Lee. Once Maddie turned 2, her dad brought her to the Abby Lee dance studio.
Brooke and Paige
Brook Marie Hyland was the oldest on the junior elite team, born on January 30, 1998. She danced on the show with her sister Paige Hyland, held on November 1, 2000. Brook and Paige have a brother named Josh and their parents, Kelly and Randy Hyland. Brook and Paige's mom was a dancer at the Abby Lee Dance Company. Brooke and Paige started dancing at age 2. Brooke left the Abby Lee dance company to do cheer then she found out cheer wasn't for her, so she returned. Paige liked to model, and she tried out for acting. On the show, Paige and Chloe Lukaisk were best friends and talked about living together. Paige sued Abby Lee Miller for 5 million dollars after Abby said very harsh things toward her, causing her to have anxiety. Paige won. Brooke and Paige both left the ALDC in 2014.
Chloe Lukasiak
Chloe Elizabeth Lukasiak was born on May 25, 2001, to Christina and Marc Lukasiak. She has a younger sister Clara who has popped up on the show several times. Chloe has a lazy eye, and Ms. Abby would always make fun of that and say nasty comments about her, making her leave the ALDC. She was nominated for the Teen's Choice Awards for Nickelodeon. She started acting and doing music videos. Chloe was a fantastic dancer with a mother who always stuck up for her. Her mom, Paige, and Brooke's mom were a perfect duo who always stood up for everybody.
This show displayed how many talented dancers there are. Even though AbbyA was harsh on the girls, you can tell they feel like a family. After practicing for five days a week and getting mistreated, all the girls are now worth millions of dollars. It is an exciting show, and I recommend watching it.

There are four central soccer positions. One of them is a goalie, and another one is a striker. Striker and goalie are in opposite positions. Goalie is when you protect your goal when the opponent on the other team tries to score. It's the goalie's job to block that. A goalie can also use their hand when they're in the goalie box. On the other hand, strikers cannot use their hands. Striker is when you are supposed to score a goal on the goalie, and you have to try and make the goal without the goalie blocking it.

Valentines Day
By Miah Jackson
Valentine's is a special day for everyone and not just for couples. Have you ever wondered what to do on Valentine's Day, even if you are not dating anyone? Today we are going to talk about what you can do.
The first thing you can do is make a custom card for someone. A card has many meanings when you don't buy one from the store. You could create a poem or a note that shows a sign of appreciation.
Another thing you could do is buy chocolates for someone. It is the star of the show when it comes to getting someone something for valentines Day. If you want to get your classmates something, I recommend a small box of sugar hearts with the sayings, but you can get them anything.
Something else you can do is get roses. Roses are a sort of flower that shows love for someone, and it's like the roses are saying "I love you" simply without even saying it. Some good colors of roses could be white, pink, and red because they all express different things.
You can do many things to make your friend, loved one, or significant other feel like they are meant to be and show how you think about them. I hope everyone enjoys Valentine's Day this year, next Tuesday, February 14.
If Looks Could Kill

Destroy Lonely is a rapper from Atlanta signed to the popular music label Opium by Playboi Carti.
Selling Out?
On March 3rd of 2023, Destroy Lonely released a single titled "if looks can kill," which is why some people could call him a sellout because he leaked its release himself.
Music Appropriation
People made his song sound different by editing and producing it as if it were their own. They would go into the leaked file and edit it in their app of choice. They would then release it on apps like TikTok and Spotify, making it so that people will compare how it sounds to the leaked version. People may not like Destroy Lonley's new single "if looks can kill."

Fashion 2023
By Miah Jackson
Currently, there are fashion trends that many people follow. Some are cute, many are simple, and most are over the top. If you enjoy fashion, this article will significantly help you, especially if you try to fit in or get new clothes. Let me tell you not to change yourself for others because your style and looks are essential for your figure and personality.
Currently, the first fashion trend is cargo pants. Cargo pants became popular in the 2000s era, which became part of 2020, known as Y2k. People first started wearing them back in 1938 in Britain. The military mainly wore them as part of "Battle Dress Uniforms." They are here and staying for good because many people wear them now.
Another fashion trend of the year is maxi skirts. Maxi shirts will appear throughout 2023, primarily because of ticktock, Gen Z's, the Y2K fashion, and the 90's. They are mainly in style now because they are floaty, sheer, and mini and work perfectly for spring/ summer fashion shows.
Now from the view of schools, it looks like corduroy is back in style. They didn't go away, but they are popular now. Corduroy pants are cut out precisely like jeans, but the only difference is the cloth is corduroy, not denim. Most people wear these pants because they are soft and have the same fabric as velvet, which is durable and perfect for colder months. The only bad thing about them is the material is thick and very hot.
There are a lot of different fashion styles/ trends, but one that has made the most significant difference is Bodysuits. I can't believe that people at school wear them. Seeing those suits showcased within a school environment makes me somewhat uncomfortable. The bad thing is that they don't even hide them well, and I am surprised that no one has gotten dress coded. Most schools could not care or care less about what students wear. If anything, people can come to school in bikinis and shorts, a tube top, open-toe shoes, or heels. That would drive me crazy, and I am a student.
All these fashion trends have reasonings to be the newest fashion, some I like and others I don't. I don't participate in any of those that are named.
The Origin of Valentine's Day
By Aarav Savani
Valentine's Day has no origin, yet there are multiple tales of how the Day originated.
One of the stories has multiple versions. The first version stated that there was a priest who served in third-century Rome named Valentine. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than men with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, who realized how unfair the decree was, secretly went against Claudius's orders and married multiple young lovers. After Valentine's actions were discovered, he was executed on Claudius's orders. However, another story claims that Saint Valentine of Terni, a member of the Christian Church, was who the holiday was named after. Like Saint Valentine from the first tale, he was executed by Claudius II. Then other stories say that Valentine was killed for attempting to help Christians escape Roman prisons, where they were often beaten and tortured. Then another legend exists that says that an imprisoned Valentine sends the first "valentine" to a young girl he fell in love with. It is alleged that before his death, he wrote one last letter to the girl signed with "From your Valentine."
While the truth behind all the Valentine legends is unclear, it is clear that Valentine is expressed as a sympathetic, heroic, and romantic figure in every single tale.
With this out of the way, some say that Valentine's Day is in the middle of February to show respect to Saint Valentine and honor his death, while others say that the Christian Church has the Day of Valentine's Day on February 14 because it interferes with the Roman celebration of Lupercalia (Fertility festival dedicated to Faunus (Roman god of agriculture) and the founders of Rome, Romulus, and Remus). This theory makes sense because the King of Rome and the Pope of the Church were always quarreling, and it would be perfect for the church for one of their holidays to overshadow one of Rome's holidays.
While there is no story on how Valentine's Day came to be and why it is the Day it is, the many legends all share one thing: Valentine's Day is a day of love and celebration.
DANCE MOMS
By Jessica Ghodsian
Dance Moms is a reality TV series that started on July 13, 2011, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and later went to Los Angeles, California, to become more professional and established. The show follows the ALDC girls nationwide to compete in competitions and show their talent.
Maddie Ziegler
Maddie was born on September 2, 2002. She started dancing at the ALDC when she was three. Maddie was called "Abby's Favorite" because she was an excellent dancer and Abby's favorite. This favoritism caused a lot of drama for the moms on the show. While on the show, Maddie put much pressure on herself because of everyone's expectations and reliance on her.
Mackenzie Ziegler
Mackenzie was born on June 4, 2004. She started dancing when she was just two; she was the youngest dancer on the show. Abby always thought of her as Maddy's younger sister, so she was always stuck in her big sister's shadow.
Nia Sioux
Nia was born on June 20, 2001. She was one of the oldest dancers on the reality show, but she was often left unnoticed by Abby. A few times, Abby would express indirect racism towards Nia. Abby always doubted Nia and gave her few opportunities to express her talent, but when she did, Abby was quick to criticize every little mistake.
Chloe Lukasiak
Chloe was born on May 25, 2001. She was Maddie's biggest competition though they were always friendly. Chloe and Maddie were pitted against each other a lot and constantly compared to each other. It wasn't fair for Chloe because when she went against Maddie, Maddie always ended up with better choreography and instruction. Chloe left dance moms in 2014 because her mother, Christi, was tired of her getting treated poorly.
Brooke Hyland
Brooke was born on January 30, 1998. She was the oldest on the show and started dancing at four. She was previously Abby's favorite, but as she grew older, Abby tended to put her on the back burner and started paying more attention to others. She was a fantastic dancer, and she tried quitting to go cheerleading, but she realized she had made a mistake and tried to come back. Like many other dancers, Abby was always hard on Brooke and didn't celebrate her accomplishments.
Paige Hyland
Paige was born on November 1, 2000. Abby never thought she was good enough and frequently yelled at her. Paige and Maddie would continuously compete against each other, but Paige still needed to have the opportunity to win. After three seasons, in season four, her mom, Kelly, took them out of the ALDC due to Abby's toxicity.
All the original members left the team because of how poorly Abby treated them. Abby made a new team called "The Mini's," which made many girls feel like she was trying to replace them. Many members stated that they left, not wanting to talk to Abby again or to dance with her due to her toxicity and the toxicity of the dance community.
