If you do not select this option, your transcript will be processed as is and courses without final grades will be recorded as "in progress". BHSEC transcripts being held for Spring 2026 grades will be processed as soon as possible at the end of June into July 2026. Please note this timeline varies and is dependent on the academic year of each school and when final grades are submitted to our office.

Credit-Hour Residency
"College graduation residency" can refer to a college's credit-hour residency requirement, meaning a student must complete a certain number of credits at that institution to graduate.
Why it matters:
It ensures that a student completes a significant portion of their education at the institution, which supports the institution's identity and enrollment.
EXAMPLES: Click on the University Name to see the policy on their website.
University of Maryland: All candidates for undergraduate degrees from University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), must take a minimum of 15 credits in courses numbered 300 or above, including at least 12 credits in their major. Additionally, students must take a minimum of 30 credits in residence. Normally these 30 credits will be the final 30 credits counted toward the degree. However, credits from University-approved study abroad and internship programs, and a maximum of 6 credits that are not part of such programs, may be included with advanced approval from the dean.
Howard University: The majority of the individual schools and colleges at Howard University require that students spend the last 30 credit hours of undergraduate study in residence at the University in the school or college in which the degree is awarded.
The federal government has regulations and rules around eligibility for financial aid ---- this is called Satisfactory Academic Progress. Financial aid is not a right, it is a privilege that must be earned. You need to make satisfactory academic progress in order to continue receiving federal student aid. This includes transfer courses as well as this is a federal government policy. In other words, you have to make good enough grades, and complete enough classes (credits, hours, etc.), to keep moving toward successfully completing your degree or certificate in a time period that’s acceptable to your school. Each college and university must follow the minimum regulations below. Colleges and universities can choose to have higher requirements than the minimums listed below.
You must meet all 3 rules simultaneously in order to remain eligible for federal financial aid.
2.0 Cumulative GPA in all college coursework attempted
67% Pass Rate in all college coursework attempted
150% Rule: Financial aid will cut you off after you attempt 150% or more of the coursework required for your degree. For example, a Bachelor's degree is typically 120 credits, so the federal government will give financial aid for 180 credits total before you are ineligible.
Important Note: College courses follow you from institution to institution for federal financial aid purposes. Even if a college does not accept that coursework, the federal government uses your college coursework to measure your financial aid eligibility.
