There are four college admissions standardized exams that you will encounter during your journey from high school to college.
The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) 8/9 offers an opportunity to get early feedback on your acquisition of content area information and academic success skills to indicate your college and career readiness.
Students in 9th grade take this test during the school day at Bard DC.

The PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) offers students the opportunities to track their progress from the PSAT 8/9 test. Students takes this test during the 10th and 11th grades at Bard DC during a designated school day.
During their 11th grade year, students who take the PSAT/NMSQT and meet additional program requirements as specified in the student guide, are automatically entered for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
There are also other scholarship partners who use the NMSQT to find qualified students to apply for their programs.
The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is an college admissions test that students generally take during the Spring semester of 11th grade and Fall semester of the 12th grade.
In 2024, the test is moving digital and will no longer be given on paper.
Students take the SAT during SAT School Day at Bard DC or they can opt to register for different date, time, and location through CollegeBoard. Please see your assigned CTO for access to a SAT Fee Waiver.
Khan Academy provides the official test preparation for the CollegeBoard SAT exam.
NOTE: Though many colleges are moving towards being test-optional, many scholarship programs are still requiring test scores and we encourage you to continue to test to optimize your financial aid opportunities.
The ACT (American College Testing) is another college admissions standardized test option for students submitting applications to colleges and universities.
Most students take this test on the same cycle as they do the SAT --- Spring semester of 11th grade and Fall semester of 12th grade.
The ACT test is not given at Bard DC and students must self-register for the exam. Please see your assigned CTO for access to your ACT Fee Waiver.
