Digital Art - “Jake” by Johanna Gonzalez

“Jake” is a digital art piece created on the Procreate software downloaded onto my iPad. I used my Apple Pencil to depict a photo of my friend’s dog, Jake. Using the layering technique, I referenced the base layer, which was an outline sketch, then added more detail with each following layer. The goal was to keep the dog’s coloring realistic, contrasting it with the bright blue background, which complemented his eyes. Once finalized, this piece was 4,096 x 1,714 pixels.

The photograph entitled “spaces” was taken on a FujiFilm Finepix Max on December 1, 2021. It was edited in high contrast with saturated hue and added brightness. The figures shown are firemen placed in front of strategically brushed red acrylic paint strokes, giving the illusion of a forward perspective. The photograph measures at 2,730 x 4,096 pixels.

This photo was taken while I was driving through Nashville, Tennessee. I set my ISO to 100 with an aperture of f/13 and a shutter speed of 1/200sec. For the editing, I made the colors pop a little bit while keeping elements in the foreground subdued.
