HELP!! I don't know WHAT TO DO!!!
Beginning students: I will tune your instruments before class for you.
Advanced students:
No more having me tune you at the piano everyday! No worries, though. You already have the ear to tune your own instrument! Most of you already know when something doesn't sound right, don't you? So, what should you do when your string/strings don't sound right? Tune it yourself! Of course, I'm here to help if needed!
You have 2 ways to do this: 1.) Use your tuning pegs (do not recommend unless your string sounds WAY off) 2.) Use your fine tuners (This is what I recommend you do first!) Here's how to use each one:
Fine Tuners: Righty Tighty Lefty Loosey is the rule here! If you need your string to sound a little higher, turn the fine tuner for the specific string to the right. If you need your string to sound lower, turn the fine tuner for the specific string to the left. It's that easy!
Tuning Pegs: DO NOT do this unless your string sounds WAY higher or lower than it should. While pushing in the peg, turn the peg of the corresponding string away from you if you need the string needs to sound higher, or turn the peg of the corresponding string towards you if you need the string to sound lower. NOTE: If you turn the pegs while not pushing them into the pegbox while you are turning the pegs, they will slip and your entire string will loosen beyond the point of no return. BE CAREFUL!
How do I know what my strings are supposed to sound like? Find your instrument in the videos below and simply match the sounds of your strings to the strings in the videos! It's a game of Matching the Sounds!
Good luck! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me through my email at jplatt@bfcsaz.com
