This indicator looks at how well students are performing on state assessments in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science. It shows the percentage of students meeting or exceeding grade-level expectations. Rather than focusing only on pass/fail rates, it reflects how all students—especially those with high needs—are achieving. It helps us see where support may be needed and celebrate areas of academic strength.
The District Performance Index (DPI) gives an overall picture of how well students in a school district are doing in English Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science based on their performance on state tests.
Smarter Balance Assessment is administered in Grades 3-8 in ELA and Math
Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Assessment is administered in Grades 5, 8 and 11 in Science.
Rather than just showing how many students passed, the DPI gives partial credit for students at different levels of achievement, which creates a more accurate and fair picture of learning across the district.
Each student’s test score falls into one of four performance levels:
These points are called the “index values”. The state averages all the index values for all students in a subject (like ELA or Math), and then multiplies the result by 100 to get a score out of 100.
