A large part of BSSM Online happens through Zoom. Zoom is a video conferencing platform to connect with people all over the world, and we have seen the Holy Spirit break out in incredible ways online. These instructions will help you get set up and connected through Zoom, as well and teach you protocols while on calls. With BSSM Online, Zoom will be used for all our live sessions, including Revival Group and Small Group, and may be used for calls with RGPs, Student Mentors and our wider team.
Every student is asked to sign up for a free Zoom account with the email address associated with their BSSM Online account email. Navigate to Zoom’s website at zoom.us and select “Sign up, it’s free.” When you sign up, make sure your first and last name match your BSSM Online account.
After you sign up, verify your account through the email sent to your email address.
Your class meeting link will be found on your dashboard. This link changes regularly, so please be sure to login to your BSSM Online platform before each Revival Group and Small Group.
The first time you run Zoom, you will need to select “download and run Zoom” and follow the steps to download the program to your computer. You will only have to do this once. If the download does not work, you will be given the option to “join from your browser”.
Once the program has downloaded, select “Join a Meeting.” It is possible Zoom will automatically connect you to your call.
After Zoom is downloaded and installed on your computer, it will be as simple as clicking the link on your dashboard to join a call.
Below are some basic protocols that will make Revival Group, Small Group and live sessions enjoyable for everyone. Please practice these protocols so everyone can get the most out of their BSSM Online experience.
Join the call at least five (5) minutes before Revival Group time to test your connection, audio, and video.
If the host does not mute you when you join the call, mute yourself as soon as Revival Group starts. This will help eliminate any distracting background noise.
If you are joining a call in a shared space, please make sure that your screen is oriented to miss the majority of extra movement (i.e., people walking around in the background) and that you use headphones to reduce noise.
Please have your camera turned on and facing you so everyone can see each other’s faces during your calls. This will help create and build connection.
During class, please use your computer only for note-taking and watching sessions. Please refrain from instant messaging, texting, using social media, email, or other such activities during sessions. This is distracting and will divide your attention.
Be sure to be in a well-lit place so people can see your face. Lighting should come from in front of you or from the side in order to best light your face.
Don’t have side conversations with other people in Revival Group and Small Group or in your home. This can be distracting for others in your call.
Turn off your camera and make sure you are muted if you need to take care of business outside of the call. Turn the camera back on when you are present in the call again.
Please encourage one another to follow these guidelines. RGPs and Student Mentors may encourage you to comply with this request.
