Advanced Math 1 Placement Test Information for Current 9th graders

For any students who do not initially meet the criteria for placement into Advanced Math 1, there will be an opportunity to take a second test on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 after school. The deadline to sign up is September 2nd. This will be the final opportunity to test into Advanced Math 1. Any students who are still interested in pursuing the Advanced Math courses will have an opportunity to test into Advanced Math 2 in late spring of their 9th grade year.

Berkeley High School offers an Advanced Math 1 course for students who have a passion for mathematics and want to invest extra time and effort in their 9th grade math class. Students interested in this course are required to take a placement test. Students who do not pass the first placement test will have one more opportunity to take a placement test after the first 2 weeks of school to potentially move into Advanced Math 1.  

Transfer students who are interested in enrolling in Advanced Math 2 (sophomores) or Advanced Math 3 (juniors)

If you were enrolled in an advanced or honors course, or participated in an accelerated course sequence, you may take the placement test for Advanced Math 2 (incoming sophomores) or Advanced Math 3 (incoming juniors). This placement test will take place during orientation week in August. 

Please email mathplacement (at) berkeley.net if you are a transfer student who was enrolled in an advanced, accelerated, or honors math course during the previous school year to register for a placement test.
