Principal Wyatt's Update/Actualización del Director Wyatt

  • In case you missed this...because middle schoolers famously forget to give paperwork to their parents: Exploration Update: English. See graphic below.
  • EDP Room Closure: Room 23 continues to be closed, we are waiting for on the final update from the facilities. What we do know: while mold was found, it was common green mold and has been tested and taken care of. Keeping the room closed allows facilities to ensure the problem is gone and make the necessary repairs. We are staying in contact with facilities and will update families when changes occur.
  • We are a microcosm of the world. Longfellow is a great place to grow and learn. If you or anyone you know is interested in seeing the wonderful things happening here, come check us out! Important Longfellow info dates:
    • Info Night: 01/15/20, 7:00-8:00PM, Longfellow Theatre
    • Tour Dates: Every Tuesday & Thursday, 01/13/20-02/13/20, from 9:15-9:50AM.
  • Longfellow will have a visit from author & illustrator of New Kid, Jerry Craft on 01/23/20 during 3rd period.
  • January will be a critical month of safety and self examination for Longfellow teachers:
    • Armed Intruder Training for all staff & District wide safety training.
    • Beginning the preparations for the 2020-2021 Safety Plan update.
    • Data Dive: In depth examination of our SBAC and STAR scores in our Leadership Team and in our different professional learning communities (Department, Grade Level, etc) and examine our next steps from an assets based lens.
    • We have begun our staff reading of Zaretta Hammond's Culturally Responsive Teaching and The Brain as we engage in strategic equity work around teaching and learning.
  • Yaaaay!!! The Longfellow Makerspace is finally done. Although I know you may be tempted to want to go see it, please hold off, we still need to add a few things to really make it our own. Students also need to finish a few projects from before the break. We are preparing a Grand Opening for this month, within the next two weeks.

Ver gráfico a continuación.

Message from Vice-Principal Bracamontes

Happy New Year! I'm still looking to start the below projects/needs. Let me know if you can assist in any way!

  • Update and replenish our emergency supplies! I'm looking for interested parents who can assist in a single project during the month of January. What would you do?

1) Assess need and take inventory of emergency bin supplies

2) Update and replenish classroom emergency backpacks

  • Wish drop off and pick-up was smoother, the safest possible, and efficient for busy parents? Please join our site effort with PTA to begin implementing some of the steps recommended by the Safe Route to School group. It includes having safety cones, and adults out at drop off and pick up to have cars safely let students out in one continuous line, etc. Interested in helping? Highlights from Longfellow Parent Groups

PTA: The Longfellow PTA continues to be an active force of nature on our campus. They engage in the support of our students, programs, and teachers. They offer a way for parents to become involved. If you are interested in building partnerships, supporting your child's school, or just believe that quality education takes a community effort...then the PTA needs you! The current effort is on the Longfellow Read-A-Thon and supporting the exploration efforts of the whole school community.

ELAC (English Language Advocacy Committee): Mr. Collins as well as Longfellow Admin are looking forward to seeing all English Learner families and allies for District updates and helpful strategies for helping students achieve. First semester Reclassification updates will be mailed during the week of 1/13/20. ELAC meets, then rolls into PTA as a concerted effort to ensure the Longfellow Community has shared parent voices.

SSC: The Longfellow SSC usually meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month, in January, we will meet on the 23rd, 6-7:30 PM. We've been focusing on making sure Longfellow programs are funded and support staff are paid for the extra time and overtime they work in service of Longfellow. The SSC also took the time to identify some key areas of urgent support in response to Superintendent Stephens request as he works to identify additional funds to set aside to help meet these needs in the 2020-21 school year.
