Aademic Eligibility

A student-athlete MUST be academically eligible in order to compete. This is the cornerstone of interscholastic athletics.

A student is academically eligible to compete if:

The student has maintained a minimum unweighted 2.0GPA ("C average") during the previous grading period (Sem 2 for fall sports, Q 1 for continuing fall sports and winter sports, Sem 1 for continuing winter sports and starting spring sports, Q 3 for continuing spring sports)

Note: incoming 9th graders are granted eligibility for the first quarter of play. Once the first quarter grades come out, 9th graders are subject to CIF rules regarding eligibility (2.0) at each date of determination.

Date of Determination (DoD): Eligibility will be determined each marking period by the NCS Date of Determination.  Once the date of determination has passed, no grade changes can be honored for the current season and an athlete is INELIGIBLE to compete for the next 9 weeks

The DoD dates for 2023-2024 are as follows:

Scholastically ineligible student will be cleared for tryouts/participation, but not for competition unless they make the team and qualify for academic probation as described below:

After tryouts, students who are scholastically ineligible may have the opportunity to pursue an Academic Probation (AP) Contract. This contract would need to be completed before clearance will be approved. Please contact Athletic Director for details. Student Athletes are eligible for AP ONE TIME between the 10th and 11th grade ONLY and must have been eligible in the grading period prior to the one that made them ineligible
