Parent Expectations and Concern/Complaint Agreement
Parental Expectations
Encourage your student athlete to fulfill their responsibilities as a team member and to maintain grades and school attendance at their highest levels.
Support your player and the team by making your best effort to attend events.
Cheer respectfully and be a positive influence on the event.
Demonstrate good sportsmanship by respecting the integrity and judgment of the officials, coaches, and athletes
Support the team by assisting with team duties and responsibilities—fundraising, driving, ticket sales, etc...
Along with your player, assume responsibility for the care of all gear issued to the athlete by the coach or team representatives and return in good condition. Understand that you and your athlete will be charged the replacement value for any lost or damaged gear.
Concerns or Complaints Procedures
Failure to follow this protocol will impede a positive outcome
Encourage your student-athlete to meet with his/her coach to discuss the issue.
Contact the coach in the appropriate manner they have asked for in their preseason meeting to set up a meeting between you and the coach, with the student-athlete present. Please do not attempt to talk to a coach before or after a practice or a contest. Our coaches are responsible for the supervision and safety of their athletes. In addition, these can be emotional moments for both parents and the coach. Meetings in this environment do not promote resolution.
If you are unsatisfied with the resolution following your meeting with the coach, contact the Athletic Director.
If, after meeting with the Athletic Director, you are still unsatisfied with the resolution, contact the Administrator over Athletics.
All coach and administrative contacts are found at berkeleyhighathletics.org
NOTE: It is NOT appropriate for parents to discuss internal team issues with the coaching staff. Some examples of issues NOT APPROPRIATE to discuss with coaching staff:
Playing time
Play calling and game strategy
Other student-athletes
If issues or complaints arise with an opposing school's staff or student athletes contact our coach or Athletic Director as soon as possible. It is NOT appropriate to approach an opposing school's coaching staff or student athletes after a game or scrimmage.
