General Job Description: To assume the responsibility of maintaining a strength and conditioning program for BHS sports. The S & C coach works in the BHS school weight room from 3:45pm to 7pm, daily, M-F
Qualifications
A current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation, such as NFHS or NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certification.
A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.
Experience and/or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for youth (high school).
Job Description
The Berkeley High School Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for BHS sports, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness skills. The Strength and Conditioning Coach meets regularly with BHS coaches to determine what the athletes need to work on. The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for maintaining the strength and conditioning facility, and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility. The facility is shared with the BHS PE Department and it is the responsibility of the S&C Coach to make sure the facility is left each night ready for PE the next morning. The BHS S&C coach interacts with many people so the ability to work on a team and positively interact with student athletes, colleagues, and the public is a must as well as having strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Create and maintain a seasonal calendar allotting time for particular teams and demographics on a needs and request basis
Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs for teams and groups. This can include pre-season, in-season, and off-season
Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches and athletic training and the athletic department.
Compensation and time commitment
The BHS Strength and Conditioning is a stipend position. Strength/Conditioning coaches need to be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. You are expected to communicate and collaborate with coaches to assure proper supervision of athletes.
Length: During the school year (August 1 - end of spring season),
Time: The anticipated time commitment is 15-20 hours per week on weekday afternoons
Pay structure: Each CIF season = $7,000 stipend for an annual total of $21,000.
Other: The summer season (June 1 - August 1) will be time of pre-season conditioning for a smaller number of athletes and preparation for the school year. Summer funding and opportunities will be discussed during a performance review midway through the winter season (in January).
Evaluation
The BHS Strength and Conditioning will communicate frequently through weekly check-ins with the AD office regarding facility use, upkeep, calendaring, and when issues arise. The BHS Strength and Conditioning will CC AD in emails to coaches as needed. The AD’s will check in with sport coaches regularly to evaluate the effectiveness of the BHS Strength and Conditioning
