International Students

We are the UC Berkeley branch of Operation Smile! An international nonprofit dedicated to providing free cleft lip and palate surgeries for children in countries with underdeveloped healthcare infrastructures. For these international surgery missions, Operation Smile requires handmade blankets for the children and cards of emotional support and encouragement for the surgeons and nurses on the mission trips.

Want to create Blankets or Cards?

1. DM us on our Instagram to get started!

2. Then attend a Zoom meeting about the program, led by UC Berkeley students. 

3. You will have the choice of creating no-sew fleece tie blankets or cards of encouragement for medical workers. (as many as you would like!!)

1 blanket is 2 service hours

2 cards are 1 service hour

4. Lastly, you will receive a certificate of the exact number of hours earned that has been signed by the founder and CEO of Operation Smile, Oral Surgeon Dr. Bill Magee. They will then ship these service projects to UC Berkeley’s office.

Not interested and instead want to sponsor blanket or card making?

Students can have the opportunity to sponsor the creation of blankets by donating to Operation Smile at Berkeley’s Surgery Blanket Fund. The money will go directly to the purchase of fleece materials that will be made into blankets for children going through cleft lip and palate surgery by Operation Smile around the world. For their Sponsorship Program efforts, they will receive a certificate of appreciation along with the number of blankets their efforts created, and surgeries their efforts impacted, also signed by Dr. Bill Magee and approved by Operation Smile.
