UC Berkeley's network for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer+ faculty and staff
LavenderCal is an official UC Berkeley staff organization working to build community, belonging, pride and joy among LGBTQ+ staff, faculty, postdocs, and visiting scholars — inclusive of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression as experienced through the lens of race, ethnicity, disability, class, age, faith, culture, and other intersecting identities. Active and retired UCB community members are welcome!
We envision a campus community where LGBTQ+ people can thrive! We accomplish this by:
Creating community through a range of in-person and virtual events, including events cosponsored with other identity-based staff groups
Voicing LGBTQ+ perspectives to UCB leadership to advocate for more inclusive policies and practices through an intersectional framework
Providing a listserv for informal discussion
In the face of social injustices that impact our nation, campus, and local communities, we use our visibility as an officially recognized campus staff organization to uphold the dignity of our community members by:
Identifying areas for improvement and taking concrete steps to improve
Remaining open to critique
Upholding UC Berkeley’s Principles of Community
