Recurring Events

🥪First Friday lavender lunch 

Every month, 12:00-1:00 pm, at the picnic tables in front of the Gen Eq Center. Bring your brown bag lunch and join us! Since September 2006, this monthly gathering has brought together LGBTQ+ staff and faculty from across campus. Whether you're an old-timer or new to campus, this is an opportunity to join together with long-time colleagues and new friends. Look for the rainbow flags!   

🏳️‍⚧️Trans*/nonbinary affinity group lunch

Join us to meet, greet, and eat outside at Yali's Cafe @ Sutardja Dai Hall! Look for the assembly of fabulous folks and a small pride flag. This event centers the experiences of trans+/nonbinary staff, faculty, visiting scholars,  and postdocs. Buy lunch at Yali's or bring your own. Whether you're an old-timer or new to campus, please join us!

The trans*/nonbinary affinity group lunch meets on the third Wednesday on even months and the third Thursday on odd months. See the calendar of events to double check the date.

🏓Queer pickleball 

Join us for open play queer pickleball about once a month on a Saturday afternoon at Bushrod park in North Oakland. Eight to ten courts will be opened and snacks are provided (BYO beverages). We request a $3-5 donation from participants (cash or Venmo) to help support this event. 

🍎Volunteering for the staff food pantry

We volunteer once a month on Wednesdays. Check back soon for more info!

📚LavCal LitClub

LavCal LitClub is an LGBTQ+ book club. Every other month, we read novels from a diverse range of queer authors and meet to discuss them. On alternating months, we meet to exchange book recommendations— no reading necessary! This club is meant to foster a fun, engaging, and inclusive dialogue about queer books and themes as they relate to our own lived experiences. Books are voted on from a list of 3-4 choices every month and recommendations are always welcome. Come read with us! 

☕Virtual coffee break

Held about once a month, this casual Zoom coffee break is a time for friendly, light chatter and low-key break from work. 

🍪Annual pride lunch

Lunch is on us! Held in May each year, this event celebrates the past year and the summer to come. 

🫱🏿‍🫲🏽Meetings of the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on the LGBT community at Cal (CAC-LGBT)

Staff and faculty representatives of LavenderCal serve alongside representatives of the undergraduate and graduate student bodies to advise the Chancellor and other senior leadership on a regular basis. At monthly meetings, CAC-LGBTQ members discuss emerging campus issues, plan collaborations with various campus entities, organize the drafting of reports and recommendations, and so on. All affiliates of the UC Berkeley campus are welcome to attend business meetings as observers. For more information, contact caclgbt at berkeley.edu.
