The Katz group has a longstanding interest in the synthesis of mesoporous Y zeolites with large mesopores, which are crucial for providing accessibility to heavier feedstocks, such as those that are derived from biomass and polymer waste. The data above demonstrate a simple supramolecular (i.e. one based on non-covalent interactions) approach for expanding the pore size in mesoporous Y zeolites. Our ongoing work in this area aims to develop new approaches for synthesis of large mesopores in zeolite catalysts.
