Project RAIDEN:

RGB Audio Integrated Device Except Not-really

Connor Dang , Vincent Zheng

Why RAIDEN?

  • Wanted to name the project after the electro archon in the game Genshin Impact.

  • Fitting name for a PCB that has decently complex power management system.

  • Saw it too many times in Apple’s ads

We initially wanted a simple RGB lamp to illuminate acrylic. While simplicity is key, a challenge is the best way to learn and grow as an engineer. We added an ESP-WROOM, audio circuitry, and the necessary power electronics to support the project.

The block diagram on the left encapsulates our target design, for the sake of time we decided to build an audio visualizer.

Soldering components onto the board

Sadly, due to time constraints, we couldn't choose a different color solder mask. We wanted purple to match the theme.

Sanity check

Sanity Check - Using Raiden’s Constellation

Indicator LEDs on the back of the PCB to indicate that the power rails/ UART Bridge is functioning.

But things didn't work perfectly...

audio removed bc fume extractor in the background is very loud

Conclusion

  • You can never be too careful with reading the datasheet.

  • Use the oscilloscope! They are your best friends.

  • Live demo! At our table.

  • Thank you HOPE instructors for a great semester! We really learned a lot and enjoyed the class.

  • Hope to build other things with the same board in the future. E.g. Heartbeat visualizer

  • Next time get purple solder mask.
