Meet the Team
I’ll be a third-year student at UC Berkeley in the Fall, studying Data Science and Economics. These two fields have interested me for a long time, and work hand in hand in data collection, analysis, application, and visualization. As addiction runs in my extended family, I thought this project and narrative would help illuminate the very real threats of substance abuse, as well as provide some information to those who struggle with it and are looking to help overcome it themselves or for a loved one. I love playing water sports, but swimming, sailing, and wakeboarding are my top three. In my free time, I also enjoy playing piano, watching movies, and playing strategy games. In making the project, I created the ‘Statistics’ page and the quick links to navigate between pages, as well as the visualizations on it in Excel.
I am a third-year student at UC Berkeley majoring in Integrative Biology. I am also studying to get a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. After completing my undergrad, I plan to go to medical school in hopes of eventually specializing in pediatric surgery. On campus, I currently work as an event planner and am actively involved in several organizations such as Kesem Berkeley and Suitcase Clinic. Although I love exploring and traveling in my free time, I do come from a small town so I appreciate the slow-paced lifestyle from time to time. Through this project, I primarily worked on the visualizations/assets of the website, the take action section, and several aspects of the “About” page including the timeline.
I’m a senior at UC Berkeley studying Data Science. I plan on going to graduate school after working for a few years. I love listening to music and singing, I’m always looking for new music to listen to. I also like swimming and skiing. I was in charge of data cleaning; I mainly worked on the Learn More page and contributed to other parts of the website.
I am a rising third-year student at UC Berkeley and am majoring in Media Studies with the hopes of completing a minor in Digital Humanities. I believe that these two fields of study will help me advance in areas such as marketing and advertising in the future, and I plan on going to graduate school after my time at Berkeley is up. I enjoy reading and playing the violin in my pastime, and am passionate about subjects centering around feminism and childcare, so I am happy to incorporate these themes into my work whenever I can. In regards to this project, I was in charge of the annotated bibliography, as well as majorly contributing to the information seen on the Home page and About page.
Acknowledgements
We received guidance and feedback from Professor Harr as well as the rest of the DIGHUM 100 teaching team. We were taught the importance of assets, services, and interfaces including how to properly conduct research, clean data, create visualizations, and make an accessible, legible website. The user experience is the most essential part of digital humanities projects so being able to implement these tools into our own website was highly useful. The readings made available via bCourses were also extremely helpful in this learning process.
