The assets of the site revolve around the Corgis database ‘opioids dataset', explaining the opioid overdoses by race, gender, and drug type from 1999 to 2019. The site uses many visualizations created in Excel on the ‘Statistics’ page, using line charts and pie charts to present opioid usage/overdose rate over time and to analyze the demographic breakdown of those who OD'ed.
On the 'Take Action' page, we provide multiple ways to access National Helplines, a link to the Opioid Treatment Program Directory, and Smart Recovery, all resources devoted to offering treatment helping those suffering through addiction and are looking to help themselves. Also on the page are tips to fighting substance misuse, steps to take if a loved one is fighting misuse, and information (as well as a Youtube video) on how to administer Naloxone, an overdose countering medication.
Finally, we've included an interactive timeline at the bottom of the 'Project Overview' page to give the reader a better insight into the history of opioid production, usage, and legislation from as early as 1860. This includes events such as the invention of heroin around 1898, the Harrison Narcotics Act in 1914, to the National Opioid Emergency declared in 2017.
