After visualizing the spots under UV light, use tweezers to dip your plate into a jar of iodine. For more information about staining TLC plates with iodine, consult the "Visualizing the Plate and Analyzing the Data" section of the explanation of TLC in your lab textbook.
Copy down the stained plate, making sure to label the compound spotted in each lane of the plate, the solvent used to develop the plate, the solvent front, and how each spot was visualized. Then, calculate Rf values for each spot and add them to your data table.
