Mission

CEE-FAR is a self-organized group of students in Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at UC Berkeley who have come together to build on historical efforts of the student community to eliminate systemic and structural racism in our department by pushing for sustained action to eliminate those barriers that have burdened historically marginalized groups. We are composed of graduate students, undergraduate students, and alumni spanning all seven CEE programs. We are working to further our individual and collective understandings of how systemic and structural racism permeate every facet of our society, with a primary focus on academia. As a group, we commit to taking action to transform the department into one that actively promotes the welfare of all members of the CEE community. We further aim to collaborate with and, when necessary, constructively challenge faculty and staff in pursuit of meaningful change.

We work towards this mission through three different action groups focused on different themes: Increasing Awareness, Department Climate/Retention & Recruitment, and Academic Reform.
