This project aims to develop a shared simulation environment for remote robotics. The vision was to create something like “Google Docs for robotics” — a platform which would enable teams forced by the pandemic to work remotely to approximate in augmented reality the experience of working with physical robots. It would allow geographically distant users to run code on a networked ROS instance and visualize ROS robot models in their workspaces using AR. This system would be able to emulate the typical planning, sensing and actuation systems that are implemented in traditional robotics by having a simple set of libraries capable of doing things such as feature extraction, multi robot communication, and path/trajectory planning.
