Fung Mentors are peer mentors who have undergone rigorous training to facilitate high-impact half-hour sessions with fellow students seeking to revise and strengthen their writing. Designated mentors have additional training in visuals, interviews/STAR method, and high-impact editing of lengthy documents.

March 11: Deliverable #1: Project Overview Due 11:59pm Midnight PST

Refer to 2024 Capstone Reporting Deliverables.

March 18: Capstone Pulse Survey #3 Due 11:59pm Midnight PST

Pulse surveys are confidential (and seen only by Fung staff). This survey will take no more than 10 minutes or less to complete. Survey will be released in bCourses the week of March 12.
While completing the survey is mandatory, your answers do not (and CANNOT) impact your grades.

March 20: Meet with Faculty Liaison (if applicable)

If you are on an industry-advised capstone project, your team should have a check-in meeting with your faculty liaison. Your faculty liaison is the instructor of record for E296: The Capstone Project. During the meeting:

Discuss your progress
Ask for feedback on the outline for your final report
Discuss evaluation criteria for E296 (see a section on 'grading')
NDA - To ensure that teams on an industry-led project are in compliance with their project advisors’ NDA, please check with your industry partner to better understand their needs and share your team’s goal for the report and capstone deliverables. Having your industry partner and faculty advisor review the report content prior to submission in your E295 course is strongly encouraged.

March 20: Team sign-up for End of Year Fung Institute Showcase Due 11:59pm Midnight PST

We are delighted to share that this year’s Fung Institute End of Year Showcase will be in-person to focus on community, connection, and celebrating your achievements during this past year. The Fung Institute will also honor top Capstone Project teams who excelled at demonstrating key aspects of our program with their work.

If your team is interested in signing up to present in either a table top/demo/display or team poster display at this event, please complete the MEng Capstone Teams Sign-up Form. Deadline: March 20, 11:59pm PST Midnight.

Additional Information: We will schedule Zoom and in-person April lunch-time Showcase Q&A sessions to share more background about the event, share tips for coming up with an interactive display, and -- most importantly -- enjoy some refreshments. Each team will be required to delegate 1-2 team members to attend one of these. Dates to be announced after spring break to confirmed exhibitors.

March Check-In Meetings

Capstone check-in meeting gives your team an opportunity to discuss and get feedback on project plans, team effectiveness, and deliverable reports. You're welcome to reach out and make an appointment; alternatively, Fung capstone staff will reach out to you.

March 31: Cesar Chavez Day

César Estrada Chávez (1927-1993) was an American labor leader and Latino American civil rights activist. He co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW) labor union. In 2014, President Obama proclaimed March 31 a US Federal Commemorative Holiday.
