UC Love Data Week 2024 (Feb. 12-16) This is a week-long offering of presentations and workshops focused on data access, management, security, sharing, and preservation.
As MEng students, you're eligible for a variety of software packages you may find helpful for capstone projects.
You also have access to in-person trainings, and online resources all of which may provide value for your projects.
Reminder: Save all work in team's Google Working Folder
ALL of your capstone deliverables for your leadership courses (ex: project canvas workbook, etc.) and work need to be added to your team's Google Working Folder. This is to help your team keep all working documents in one place that is easily accessible by your teammates, coaches and advisors.
These will be used for grading, sharing with your capstone project advisor, and also your 270K coaches.
If you are having trouble accessing the folder or need clarification please let the capstone team know asap so we can help resolve.
February is Black History Month. Represented below are notable Black leaders in the engineering space and UC Berkeley history. Mae Jemison, Fannie Lou Hamer, Annie Easley, and Howard P. Grant's accomplishments in engineering, education, and social justice serve as outstanding examples for educational pursuits on the basis of empathy. (Illustration Credit: Ella Rochelle-Lawton).
During your advising meeting, discuss criteria for success.
Unlike traditional classes, E296 The Capstone Project does not have a syllabus or a grading scheme. It's up to your team and your advisor to discuss criteria for success (i.e., how you're going to be evaluated). For more info, check out "GRADING" section on this page of the handbook.
If you are on a project that's primarily advised by a PhD student or a post-doctoral researcher, you need to meet with your instructor-of-record.
Typically, these meetings occur at least once a month.
If you are on a partner-advised project, book a time to see your faculty liaison -- who's your instructor of record for E296 The Capstone Project -- no later than Feb 15.
You should see your faculty liaison at least twice this semester before the final presentation / evaluation. During the first meeting (no later than Feb 15): (i) share your progress; (ii) share your updated project plan.
During the second meeting (no later than March 20): (i) share your progress; (ii) share your final report outline; and (iii) share your updated project plan. Typically, final assessments are scheduled in April and happen by May 13. This assessment will include a grade for E296 The Capstone Project and, depending on your department, the technical part of your MEng qualifying exam.
Capstone check-in meeting gives your team an opportunity to discuss and get feedback on project plans, team effectiveness, and deliverable reports. You're welcome to reach out and make an appointment; alternatively, Fung capstone staff will reach out to you.
