Apple Glen Families,
As we move into the fourth quarter, I would like to thank you all for your support and collaboration this year. There are a lot of great things happening at Apple Glen. I would like to meet with a group of family and/or community members who are willing to participate in a Parent Advisory Meeting. I would like to set up a meeting in May to meet with 10-15 stakeholders. If you are willing to participate, please complete the form below. I will reach out with an invite to the first 15 people who respond.
April is a very busy month for us. All students will complete state testing this month. While we ask for your support in helping your child to be rested and prepared for the test, we also understand testing situations can create anxiety for some students. Please reassure your child that they are ready for the test and will do great. We do not want to add any additional stress for students.
Parent-Teacher Conferences begin today. Teachers really value this time to share about your student. Our goal is to meet with 100% of the families of our students. If you are unable to make your scheduled conference time, please let the teacher know and reschedule the conference.
We are super excited to have over 150 students signed up for Run Club!! We could really use volunteers to help during the runs on Tuesday and Thursday. If you are able to volunteer you may run/walk, ride a bike, or even cheer runners on from a lawn chair! The track around Memorial Park is right at a mile. We work very hard to make sure we have volunteers along the entire mile stretch! If you can help, please reach out to Coach Holton to let him know. jholton@bentonvillek12.org
thank you all!

April 27th, 2019 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day- this day provides an opportunity to clean out your medication cabinets and drop off any unused and expired prescription medications at a collection site. Drug addiction and overdose is a public health concern. Studies show that a majority of misused and abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, often from medication cabinets in the home. This day is an effort to prevent drug addiction and overdoses. Keep your family safe by dropping off your unused prescription medications. Visit https://takebackday.dea.gov/ for more information and to find drop off sites.
Backup Clothes: Please pack an extra set of clothing to be kept in your child’s backpack for accidents/spills/falls in mud or water.
Sick Students: Students who have fever (temperature of 100.4 or higher), vomiting, and/or diarrhea, should be symptom free without medication for a full 24 hours before returning to school. Please provide doctor notes to attendance clerk at agesattendanceclerk@bentonvillek12.org. The note should include date(s) to be excused due to illness.

Welcome to April!
Mrs. Melissa Wood and I were in classrooms the previous month teaching Mindfulness & Test-Taking Skills to your child. This month, as you prepare yourself and your student for testing season, join with them in practicing belly breathing to calm and positive thoughts ("I can do this" "I will do my best") to inspire!
As part of a Growth Mindset, use phrases like "I am so proud of the effort you are showing!" "You are working so hard" "Even though you got frustrated, you kept trying and didn't quit!" to encourage your child to stick with it and keep moving toward their goals!
REMEMBER...FOR THE TEST
Get Good Rest!
Eat Healthy Food and Drink Water!
Practice Belly Breathing!
Practice Positive Thinking!
Test security is a primary focus of the Arkansas Department of Education and is the focus of many policies and procedures implemented in the administration of statewide assessments. One component of these policies is not allowing students to be in possession of a cell phone or other electronic devices during testing. In an effort to maintain test security, Bentonville School District has established procedures to ensure that students are free of all devices that might compromise security during testing. Each campus will adhere to the following guidelines.
All students are to turn cell phones/electronic devices off before a test administration begins.
All cell phones/electronic devices must be stored in backpacks/purses or turned in to the test administrator before testing begins. Students will not be allowed to use cell phones or other devices in hallways, rest rooms, or at any time while they are still testing. All devices will remain out of sight until the test session is over.
All backpacks/purses are to be placed at the front of the room or left in lockers. Students may not access backpacks or purses until the test session has ended.
Students found to be in possession of cell phones or electronic devices during testing are subject to disciplinary action as set forth in the Student Discipline Policy. The device will be taken up by the test administrator and delivered to school administration. A report including the student’s name along with the date, time and a description of the incident will be submitted to the District Testing Coordinator and the Arkansas Department of Education. The student risks having his/her test score invalidated by having such a device in possession while testing. Parents will be notified of any such action.
Students/parents will be informed of this policy in a variety of methods such as daily announcements prior to testing, posters throughout the building, newsletters, parent letters, message call system, etc. It is up to each campus to determine the most efficient and effective method of notifying students and parents of this policy.
This procedure includes all cellular devices, Apple watches, or any such electronic watch being worn during testing as well as any electronic device with picture taking capabilities.
