For children to understand that God gave us the law (10 Commandments) so that we could know how to be in relationship with him and with others.
God as the Creator, knows how life and people operate at their best.
Obeying the Law helps us to live better, but it is not the means to salvation.
We follow the Law because we love the Lord!
God's law reflects humanity’s true nature and the way the world was designed.
God gave us the 10 commandments.
Gods’ law’s true purpose is to drive people to the grace of God, revealing the inadequacy of human efforts.
Obeying the letter of the law to get God to love us (transactional) can lead to a false sense of righteousness or rebellion, we obey from a place of love!
(The answers provided are guidelines)
1. What did you learn about God?
Answer: God is our Creator, and he has given us laws according to his
designs.
2. How do the 10 Commandments help me?
Answer: God gave us rules to help us, to protect us, to help us live lives that are loving
towards him and others. In sports they have a saying it says, “Without rules,
there is no game.”
3. What would the world look like if we didn’t have these 10 Commandments? How would we treat each other?
Answer: It would be chaos, people would hate one another, they could steal, have
idols and not respect each other. Think of any answers where the laws are
broken.
What did I learn about God?
God is creator of all, therefore he knows what rules are best for me and everything he created. The commandments tell me how to be in relationship with God.
What did I learn about myself?
If I obey Gods rules, I will learn to love him well and love others well too. This makes for a good society. I also learnt that because God loves me and everyone, he gave me these rules to protect me and to show me how I can live with him and others.
What do I need to do? I must love the Lord with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and then I must love my neighbour as myself.
