Reteach/Retakes

Many students have not been putting forth their best effort on tests because they expect to be able to retake or correct it. In order to support learning, as well as encourage positive student learning strategies (i.e. studying, focusing in class, asking questions, best effort, etc.) I am enacting a new policy.

For any chapter/unit test, every student that achieves a score below 70% will have some type of alternative assignment to complete. In general, students will have one week from the time test grades are released (usually day of the test) and will be required to complete all parts of the assignment with at least 80% accuracy. Once this is accomplished they will earn back half the points they missed on the original test (as has often been the case with retakes).

This assignment will look different depending on the content and may be a small group activity with or without the teacher or may be independent work. Nearly every day, the first 10ish minutes are devoted to vocab review, but students are also able to work on missing assignments (or reteach activities) during this time. If it can not be completed in that time, they will need to work at home.

Students who earned greater than 70% on the original test that wish to complete the alternate assignment may earn points back up to 100% on the assignment.

This is brand new, so will be a work in progress as we finish the year. As always, if there are any questions please feel free to reach out.

The first two assignments this policy applies to are the Energy and Motion Post Test in Science and the Chapter 13 Mesopotamia test in Social Studies.
