AP Capstone is a two-year research program. Students take AP Seminar in 11th grade and go on to complete their AP Research project in 12th grade. Watch the video to get a quick overview.
AP Seminar prepares students to do the type of investigative, academic-based research that is required in college. Students learn how to navigate databases, read academic and scientific journals, determine the credibility and reliability of sources, and how to use credible sources to defend their own arguments.
The AP Capstone program is a two-year research-based program: Year 1 Students take AP Seminar. Year 2 students take AP Research. In this course, students will work with teams to conduct research and create multimedia presentations, and do independent argument based research that will culminate in an eight-minute TED Talk style presentation. AP Seminar is based on QUEST, an inquiry and investigation model:
Question & Explore
Understand & Analyze
Evaluate Multiple Perspectives
Synthesize Ideas
Team, Transform & Transmit (collaborate and communicate your argument)
Students can enroll in Year 1 (AP Seminar) in their Junior or Senior year. AP Seminar is the prerequisite course for AP Research. Students cannot take AP Research without first taking AP Seminar. More information: AP Seminar College Board homepage
