TIA is a program created by the Texas Legislature as part of House Bill 3 to provide increased compensation for our most effective teachers and to help attract and retain highly effective teachers at traditionally hard-to-staff schools. TIA will help us to identify top teachers here in Bells by looking at a variety of measures of instructional excellence, including student learning and classroom observations. When looked at in combination, these measures will help recognize and reward highly effective teachers, some of whom will be eligible for increased compensation. The exact amount available to each teacher is dependent on a formula determined at the state level, which also takes into account the number of students who are economically disadvantaged. You can learn more at TIA Texas.
Bells ISD has a fully approved Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) system! TIA-designated teachers in Bells ISD will now receive additional compensation on their July paycheck, ranging between $3,000 and $36,000, based on their designation level and campus.
Designation Levels & Performance Standards
The state has designed TIA to recognize approximately the top 50% of teachers across Texas. These levels are based on performance standards for teacher observations and student growth:
Master: Commensurate with the top 5% of teachers statewide.
Exemplary: Commensurate with the top 20% of teachers statewide.
Recognized: Commensurate with the top 33% of teachers statewide.
Acknowledged: Commensurate with the top 50% of teachers statewide.
An alternative path to a TIA Acknowledged designation is through National Board Certification for Professional Teaching Standards. National Board Certification is available in 25 certificate areas across 16 disciplines. Staff interested in becoming National Board certified can contact the administration office in BISD to receive guidance and support in the pursuit of this certification. Bells ISD will receive an annual allotment for every designated teacher it employs. The amount is determined by the teacher's designation level and the specific campus where they work.Â
Factors for Increase: The base amount increases significantly based on high-needs and rural factors calculated annually by the TEA.
Campus-Specific Funding: The Commissioner of Education provides a list each year with projected allotment amounts for every campus.
