Other Important Info
Please send a snack with your child each day. Kindergartners do not buy snack from the snack room.
Please send your child a water bottle that will not easily spill. We will refill the water bottles as needed. Students may only bring water in the bottles. If you forget to send a bottle we will provide a cup for the day.
Once you have decided on the form of transportation that your child will use to get home from school please try to stick with that choice. It is very confusing for the students (and the teacher) when students swap back and forth between being a car rider and being a bus rider. If something comes up and you need to change the type of transportation you must send a note or call the school to let the teacher know. A child’s word will not suffice as to how he/she will get home. If a note or a call is not received the child will be put on his/her usual form of transportation.
You must check-in at the office if you come on campus.
Please check out my teacher website at beekmancharter.org. Click on the faculty link then click on Joan Chain. I update this weekly.
The best way to contact me is through email. You may also send a note with your child. If you feel like we need to talk please let me know and I will call you or set up an appointment during my planning time. My planning time is 9:50-10:20 or 12:45-1:45. My email is joanchain@beekmancharter.org.
All money that is sent to the school should be put in an envelope/Ziploc labeled with your child’s name and the purpose of the money. This is very important because kindergarteners sometimes forget they handed their teacher money and have no idea what it is for.
Folders will go home every night. Please look through your child’s folder each night and take out the day’s work and check for notes. If you have a note or money for the teacher it should be placed in the folder. Folders will be checked each morning by a teacher or para. We do not check backpacks so please be sure to put notes and money in folders.
Toys should not be brought to school unless the teacher has requested them. It is also best if jewelry (with the exceptions of earrings) not be worn because it can quickly become a toy. If a child brings anything from home they will be asked once to put it in their backpack. If the item is brought out again it will be taken.
Your child may bring a beach towel or SMALL blanket to cover up with at naptime. Pillows and stuffed animals are not allowed at naptime. We do not have room to store these items.
Attendance is very important in kindergarten. Parents sometimes tend to think kindergarten is “only coloring and playing” but that is far from the truth. We will learn to read, add/subtract, spell, write words/sentences and do many other “real” skills this year. Please have your child at school unless they are ill.
Please keep an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpack in case he/she has an accident at school. This should include shirt, bottoms and underwear. Even if your child doesn’t have bathroom accidents he/she could fall in mud or spill something on themselves. It is much easier to change clothes than it is to call a parent to bring extra clothes. Put your child’s name in the extra clothes. Extra clothes do not have to be uniform.
School begins at 7:40 am. Your child should come to the classroom when he/she arrives at school. Kindergarteners will go to breakfast together after school begins for the day. Students who are not in the room by 7:40 will be marked tardy. Please take into consideration that it takes kindergarteners a few minutes to walk from the car drop off to the classroom. They must be in the classroom when the tardy bell rings. Students who arrive after 7:40 must be taken to the office by a parent and signed in.
