Week at a Glance

                                                Week of August 17-21

You will receive a “Week At a Glance” each Monday.  I will include the skills we will be working on for the week.  Be sure to find the notes at the bottomYou can always find the “Week at a Glance” on my faculty page at beekmancharter.org

ELA-

Phonics: We will begin discussing how our mouths work to make sounds. We will talk about sounds that we need to turn our voices on and sounds where we would turn our voices off.  Also, we will talk about nasal sounds, stop sounds and continuous sounds.

Writing:  We will practice the different types of lines that are used when writing.  These include curved, horizontal, vertical and slanted.  Your child will bring home some letter tracing pages that we will complete in class.  We aren’t learning to identify these letters yet, we are just using the letters to practice the various lines.  So please do not expect your child to name these letters yet.

Reading:  I will read a different story each day that talks about going to school.  We will complete an activity to go with each story.  Be sure to ask your child to tell you about our story of the day!

Math-  We will begin learning our math routines this week.  This will include “turn and talks”, math words and math discussions.
