Frequently Asked Questions
WELCOME! We are so excited that you are considering music for yourself or your child! You, as the parent or guardian, play a vital role in your child's learning process, progression and success. You are equally as valuable as your child's instructor! You will be your child's teacher at home and need to know the materials they are learning as well as they do. You will be the one your child will look to for help and encouragement on this beautiful journey! Here are some things to consider before enrolling your child in music lessons:
-Be willing to be consistent and devote regular time over a long period to develop the ability of your child
-Attend the lessons, take notes and learn along with your child
-Be willing to attend concerts and listen to music specific to your child's instrument
-Listen to the Twinkle Variations and all other literature 10,000 times! :) **
-Be willing to create a home environment of affection, support, encouragement, a positive attitude and understanding for the successful musical development of your child. Nothing worth having comes easily
Music is one of the most wonderful gifts that God has given us and, like everything we do in life, we should strive to do it with excellence as unto the Lord. We are thrilled that you are considering music for yourself or for your child!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I drop off my child for their lesson?
No. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Do I have to sit in the classroom during the lesson?
It is in your's and your child's best interest if you stay in the room so that you can observe, write down assignments and learn along with your child. This is not required by all of our instructors.
Can I run an errand while my child is in his or her lesson?
No. Children 13 and older may attend their lessons without their parent or guardian if both the instructor and the parent are in agreement. However, the parent or guardian is required to stay on campus.
Where can I park?
Students may park in the main church parking lot facing the sanctuary and enter through the double doors of the Family Life Center. Lessons are held on the first and second floors of the FLC.
How long are the lessons and how often?
Lessons are for 30 minutes once a week, but can be adjusted at the instructor's discretion.
Do I need to buy an instrument?
Most instruments can be rented on a month-to-month basis. Piano students will need to speak with their instructors about how and where to get an instrument.
Will my child get to perform in a recital?
Yes! Each student will have the opportunity to participate in a minimum of two recitals held each year: one at the end of the fall and spring semesters. These recitals are not required, but strongly encouraged as it is an opportunity for students to share what they have accomplished with family and friends.
How much do lessons cost?
Tuition rates vary by instructor. Answers to questions about tuition can be found on the page labeled "Tuition" at the top of the page.
