Yugoslavia Under Josip Broz Tito

Titos reign from WW2 to his death in 1980 can be summarized as a strong leadership over all provinces, as he managed to maintain a delicate balance among the diverse ethnic groups within the country through policies of non-alignment and benefitting from many foreign ties

“Let that man be a Bosnian, Herzegovinian. Outside they don't call you by another name, except simply a Bosnian. Whether that be a Muslim (Bosniak), Serb or Croat. Everyone can be what they feel that they are, and no one has a right to force a nationality upon them” (Tito).

The Rise of Josip Broz Tito

During the Axis powers attack on Yugoslavia, resistance groups such as the Partisans led by Josip Broz Tito ushered him to the position of Secretary General. Fast Forward to March 7, 1945 post-war elections were held as Tito won the with an overwhelming majority and enjoyed massive popular support as the citizens of his country called him the "Liberator of Yugoslavia", uniting all citizens under his rule.

America Chooses Tito Over Stalin

Under President Truman, the US supports Tito's regime in Yugoslavia for strategic reasons, providing financial aid during a drought, with additional contributions from Britain, Italy, and West Germany, and allocating funds to address various needs.
