Grading

What is graded in this class?

  • Classwork & Homework - Assignments that are started in class and finished in class or for homework outside of class. I identify how the assignment can or will be completed - as a class, in small groups, in partners, or individually. These grades represent the least independent level of work, as assistance is always available in class. These assignments are graded for completion or accuracy, and I specify the type of grade when the assignment is given. Classwork and homework can be submitted late for partial credit (less than half). Classwork and homework are 35% of your grade each marking period.

  • Projects/Papers - Projects and papers are larger assignments that students work on in class and outside of class. While assistance is available in class, I also help you to work more independently, reinforcing skills and helping you to think through your work. If a paper or project is turned in late, points are deducted for each school day, even if class does not meet. Projects and papers are 35% of your grade each marking period.

  • Quizzes/Tests - Includes open-notes quizzes and “no-notes” quizzes and tests. These grades represent the most independent level of work, as you complete them individually and independently. If you are absent the day of a quiz or test, you must schedule a time to make it up upon your return. Quizzes and tests are 25% of your grade each marking period.

  • Organization - This is taught and reinforced throughout the year. The grade provides a positive incentive to make organization a priority and eventually, a habit. The date on which organization will be graded will be announced in advance. Points are deducted if your binder or iPad are submitted late. Organization is 5% of your grade each marking period.

How is the grade computed?

  • Your work is graded using a points system.
  • The points system is a ratio system. If you earn a 9/10 on an assignment, that is a 90%.
  • There are categories for different types of work you complete in this class.
  • The categories for this class are listed above. The percentage indicates how much that category is “weighted” for your grade each marking period.
